The 5th Jeevan Kite & River Festival kicks off with the theme "Brahmaputra Campaign" from January 1, 2016. This campaign is an effort to connect the urban generation with the river. The event will continue till January 7 at Rajaduwar Ghat, near Sukreswar Park, Guwahati. Kite flying, adventure sports, cultural shows are some attractions of the event.
Atleast 20 people including children have fallen ill after they ate lunch dinner at a marriage ceremony in Nalbari on Wednesday.It took place in Ghograpar area where a section of people complained of vomitting after they ate lunch served at a local marriage ceremoney in the afternoon. All they are undergoing treatment in the hospital.
After Hemanta Kalita , more and more AGP leaders are preparing to join the saffrone party. AGP leader and former minister Jagadish Bhuyan is set to join the party soon. The Morigaon session judge Ikramul Hussain cleared death sentences for Mohan Teron. Panic grips the Jorhat Medical College Hospital when the baby ICU caught fire on Tuesday. The fire broke out at the baby ICU at around 9 in the evening when a section of the attendents came to see the smoke and sparks at a fan. The panic stricken attendents and mothers started running out of the baby ICU as soon as they came to see the smokes. There is no report of any casualty. Fire tenders arrived in the spot and doused the fire.

Amid growing incidents of rhino poaching in Kaziranga, a wild tuskar died at the hands of the poachers in Karbi Anglong district on Tuesday. The poachers sprayed several rounds of bullets in the wee hours. Veterinary doctors took over ten hours to attend the animal. But the tusker died after hours of languishing in dying agony. Now forest department feels the heat of the incident where poachers took the life a wild tuskar.
