Bodoland varsity week kicks off
A six day varsity week of Bodoland University, which has kicked off from Thursday in the presence of student, departmental heads and officials at university complex in Kokrajhar. Prof. Hemanta Kumar Baruah, Vice-Chancellore of Bodoland University inaugurated the annual varsity week. BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgoyary graced the week as chief guest on the inaugural session.

Borgoyary, in his speech said that the university is a centre of excellency while creating educational environment among society in the region.He said that Bodoland University is the only university to give higher studies in the Lower Assam region and has been providing good educations among students since its inception.
‘BTC administration was working to the uplift of education and human resource development in the region through the spirits of Bodo Accord that has accorded to setting up university.The central institute of technology (CIT) has declared as Deemed University during recent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kokrajhar and students are getting best arena of higher studies in the region’, Borgoyary said. He has urged the students to be dedicated while taking higher studies and make region a healthy and integrated.
Various sports, cultural, literary, Marathon race competitions and social awareness rally would also be organised during the varsity week celebration.
Assam Education Minister Sarat Borkotoky would grace as chief guest on the concluding of the week on February 9.

Kokrajhar police are preparing to firmly deal with the militants who have been unleashing a reign of terror in the form of anti social activities in the BTAD district.Addressing a press conference in Kokrajhar on Wednesday, SP Shyamal Prasad Saikia said that an intensified crackdown against NDFB-S, ULFA (I), Rabha Viper Army (RVA), KLO, Adivasi militants who have been hiding in the district. He also disclosed that KLO, RVA militant outfits are trying to make their strength felt in the lower Assam districts.
Security forces claimed to have killed a dreaded NDFB-S militant at an encounter in Kokrajhar on Wednesday.The encounter took place at Gossaigaon in the wee hours. Acting on a tip off army, police and para military forces launched at Nukhuwa area where the encounter took place. Identified as Kamal Brahma, the militant died on the spot. Police recovered a pistol from the spot.

Water resources minister Basanta Das visited the flood affected areas of Chirang district and assessed the loss of damages by the recent flood on Sunday.He visited the flood affected areas and Aie River bank erosion site at Dumgaon, Palangsubari (Thulsijhora) and Goraimari as well as at Aipoali.Talking to reporters, Das said the excessive rainfall in the district had inundated several low lying areas and caused large scale destruction. Revenue minister Bhumidhar Barman and water resources minister Basanta Kumar Das visited Kokrajhar to take stock of the flood situation in the district on Saturday. The duo reviewed the situation at a meeting of district administration officials and MLAs and BTC administration representatives at the Circuit House in Kokrajhar.
