The protesters led by 'AIIMS Demand Committee',Raha assembled at Raha Chariali at 11 am  and than started blocking the National Highway.

Amid sloganeering, the protesters  expressed anger against the BJP for befooling people of Raha on the issue of AIIMS. Speaking before the protesting , Hirannya Narayan Bora, president, AIIMS Demand Committee, Raha, alleged that land measuring approximately 600 B  for AIIMS at village Chaparmukh under Shahari Mouza was sanctioned  but AIIMS hospital was not given to Raha because of state government and central government's  "negligence and arrogance".

"The central inspection team for AIIMS  had visited the proposed site at Raha three times and announced that the site was suitable in presence of us. But now the prestigious hospital was given for  Guwahati which we are opposing,  said, Birinchi Kumar Bhuyan , Secretary, AIIMS Demand Committee, Raha.

The  protesters were seen coming down heavily on the Congress government in Dispur and the BJP-led Government at the Centre for not proposing the AIIMS at Raha adding that the BJP MPs in upper Assam kept mum over the issue.

“We will blame it all on MP Rajen Gohain. He failed to properly take up the matter with the Central Government,” said a local AASU leader who joined the paralyzing road blockade.
