Election general observer arrives in Chirang
The General Observer Priyatu Mandal arrived in Chirang district on Monday to monitor the electioneering process in 31- Sidli (ST) LAC which goes to poll on April 11.
Mandal, minutely took stock of over all poll preparedness in the district today which included managemet of manpower, activities of flying squads, maintenance of law and order, installation of helpline and complaint monitoring cell, transportation, training on EVM and training to polling personnel including awareness activities under Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP). He personally inspected the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) Cell and Expenditure Monitoring Cell (EMC) at District Centre. He has asked the MCMC cell to constantly monitor and check the surrogate advertisements or paid news in the TV channels and News papers.The General Observer strictly instructed all to implement Model Code of Conduct putting all efforts to ensure free and fare poll in a transference manner. He also appealed to all political parties, contesting candidates and general public from constituency to contact him at 09418018822 for any quires and complaints regarding any election related matters.

There seems some let up in the flood situation in Kokrajhar district on Monday where six people died snd nearly 1 lakh rendered homeless. The water level of the major rivers seems to have shown a receding trend from the afternoon and if this trend continues, the flood waters would recede gradually. But many relief camps are said to have fallen short of materials to accommodate the affected people who were evacuated to the relief camps'. The current flood wave is learnt to have damaged a huge quantity of rice to the tune of 1000 quintal, stored at the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown in Kokrajhar.There seems to be no respite in the flood wave which brings brimful misery to the people in the BTAD areas. Former Assam Minister Siddique Ali Ahmed expresses suspects the role of rebels in ceasefire behind the killing of Lafikul Islam Ahmed.
