Educational awareness programme at Borengajuli
An education awareness programme was organised at Borengajuli Santipur village of Udalguri district on Sunday. The programme was organised by Pherengadao NGO and presided by village headmen Ragen Basumatari. Social worker Atul Boro highlighted erratic electrical power supply in the village.
Children of this remote village, inhabited mostly by tea tribe community, avoid going to schools. Most women in teh village lack formal education. The organsiation has decided to setup a non-formal education centre in the village.

Former AASU activist and a torchbearer of Assam Movement Girish Chandra Bhattacharjya died of cardiac arrest on Thursday. Hw was 59. The end came at his residence at Borjolah village of Tangla in the evening. His sudden demise has casted a pall of gloom in the entire area of Tsngla where he was Tangla unit President and Vice-President in the period of 1982-1985 and 1985-86 respectively. He also served as Organizing secretary of central committee AASU 1987-89. He was instrumental in strengthning the roots of the student body during his tenure.
A huge meeting by All Assam Students Union in Udalguri on Monday expressed grave concern over the failure to detect and deport the immigrants from the state even 32 years after the Assam Accord was signed. A 20-old housewife sustained severe burn injury after her husband poured kerosene on her shoulder and set her ablaze at Gandhibasti locality of Tangla. Reportedly the drunk husband assaulted her before setting her on fire.
