A team of activists of All BTC Bengali Youth Students' Federation headed by its chief advisor Shymal Sarkar accompanied by President Montu Dey, Secretary Sujan Paul called on CM Sonowal and submitted a memorandum for solving the issues, Bengali Hindus are facing in the state on June 28 last.
The memorandum addressing Sonowal stated that the BJP election manifesto mentioned that if voted to power the saffron party would grantcitizenship to Bengali Hindu refugees and also solve the D-voter issue faced by native Bengali Hindus residing in the state whose population counts near about one-fourth of state population.
The memorandum firstly demanded solving issues like D-Voters to native Bengalis,abolishment of various detention camps in the state.
Secondly it stated that though the deadline of 1971 for updatation of NRC is accepted ,it demanded special privileges for granting of citizenship to refugee Hindu Bengalis who came to Assam post 1971 on humanitarian and religious ground.
Thirdly the memorandum alleged that a step mother treatment is meted out when it comes to formation of development council in Brahmaputra valley,unlike Bengali Development Council and Linguistic Minority Board in Barak valley.
It also sought protection to Hindu minorities in neighbouring Bangladesh through PM Modi.
The memorandum expressed great hopes on the Sonowal led alliance government, in solving the issues of Bengali Hindus.
The memorandum also urged the state alliance government to give a cabinet ministry to legislator from Brahmaputra valley who could represent the 60 Lac Hindu Bengali of the valley .
