In an effort to inculcate the habit of plantation of saplings among student community ,a tree plantation drive within the college campus was formally launched at Tangla College one of the premier educational institution of undivided Darrang and present Udalguri district on Wednesday.
Attending the programme as chief guest Pabitra Rabha, a National School of Drama (NSD) graduate and a theatre personality of the state,who is also a alumnus of Tangla College planted tree saplings in presence of students,faculties,Tangla College Union body members and Principal of the institute Dr. Prasen Daimari.
Speaking on the ocassion artist Rabha said" I along with Zubeen Garg have been visiting in various corners of state from March this year to appeal people to carry plantation drives.
It is a bizarre truth that a section of unscruplous people in past years made great damage to the ecosystem by dealing in timber buisiness in the region.",said Rabha.
Rabha further said"I feel proud to launch a tree plantation drive here in Tangla College of which I am an alumnus. We will survive only when trees survive."
Along with the scores of benefits trees have including maintaining green environment ,economic values of timber producing trees also has a good prospect. He exhorted every students to plant at least 10 plants individually at their homes. Earlier the welcome address was delivered by Swdmsa Boro General Secretary of College Union. Principal Dr. Prasenjit Daimari also appealed students to actively participate in plantation drive within the college campus.
