Police apprehended a suspected over ground worker/sympathizer of NDFB-S identified as Paulina Basumatary 22, wife of a NDFB-S cadre Compounder alias Khaose from No 1 Nandipur village under Kachugaon police station in Kokrajhar district .

Police said Rs 15,000 (extorted from Audung Bazar area) have been recovered from her possession which was supposed to be handed over to NDB-S cadre.

She was working as a channel of communication between the NDFB-S cadres and over ground worker in that area through her husband. She has been playing a very important role in siphoning off extortion money to the outfit in Myanmar through the OGWs/sympathisers.

Jahar Brahma dies

Kokrajhar: Noted social worker  and editor of bodo daily Bodoland Sansri died on Saturday night around 11.45 pm at a private hospital in Guwahati. He was 68 years oldw.  Brahma was suffering from japanese encephalitis and was under going treatment at a private nursing home in Guwahati for the couple of weeks. Brahma was closely associated with Brahma dharma and social organisatons. He leaves behind his wife, a son, two daughters and host of relatives and well wishers.  Many people and organisations including Kokrajhar press club have expressed grief and condolences over his demise and pray for peace the departed soul.

Toxic effluent from NTPC plant damages crops in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar: Poisonous oil and waters released from NTPC project in Salakati, Kokrajhar damages huge areas of crops along the Salakati area in Kokrajhar district. Farmer allege that water and chemical oils are being released from NTPC project via drains into paddy fields. Affected areas include Bamunigaon, Pakriguri, Putiagaon of Kokrajhar district. Farmers demanded strict measures against incident. Toxic efflluent alsokillingh fishes, animals in the area. NTPC officials have rushed to the area to take stock of the situation. However, the officials denied the allegation of toxic effluent damaging the crops, fishes and animals.

Arms recovered at Baksa

Kokrajhar,Aug 9: Security forces belonging to Assam Police and Indian army recovered catche of arms and ammunition from Uttarkuchi in Baksa district on Thursday.  A joint team of Indian Army and Assam Police recovered an AK 56 rifle along with ammunitions from Uttarkuchi during a search operation on Thursday morning. The recovery comes in the run up to the Independence Day and amidst heightened security across the state. Kokrajhar: BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary distributed tractors among beneficiaries under the Chief Minister’s Samagra Gramya Unnaya Yojana at a ceremonial function held at BTC Secretariat ground in Kokrajhar today in presence of Assam minister Pramila Rani Brahma and Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary. Python rescued at Sesapani Nwlwbari in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR:  A Python was rescued at Sesapani Nwlwbari near Magurmari forest beat office in Kokrajhar on Sunday.According to Sesapani villagers, the Python was found at a fishing pond near Magurmari forest beat office and rescued by villagers .Later,villagers handed it over to the forest department.The rescued reptile weighed eight kgs and was nearly nine feets in length. Hagrama lays foundation stone of Karigaon CHC

KOKRAJHAR: BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary laid the foundation stone for construction of 30 bedded Karigaon Community Health Centre (Model Hospital) at Karigaon Maigongpuri in Kokrajhar district on Sunday. Body recovered at Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: An unidentified dead body was  recovered at Borjhora river near Tinkhona village under Fakiragram PS in Kokrajhar district on Sunday morning. The body was witnessed floating on the river,by the locals and later the police arrived. The unidentified body bored clear injury marks.The deceased ia suspected to be from the neighbouring villages. "The body has been sent for post mortem and the matter is being investigated", said a police official.
