Garlabata Basumatary remembered in Kokrajhar

The influential All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and Bodo society recalled contributions of Daoharu Garlabata Basumatary, former president of ABSU, who had dedicated his life towards development and uplift of Bodo community, on his 16th death anniversary at Shyamtaibari village in Kokrajhar district on Wednesday.

The anniversary was organized under the aegis of Ramfalbill Anchalik ABSU in association with Garlabata Basumatary Public Charitable Trust (GBPCT) at his burial place with a daylong pragramme. As a part of the programme, Pranay Kumar Brahma, trust chairman hoisted the trust flag in the morning followed by homage to the tomb paid by his widow Raktima Basumatary.

Garlabata was shot at by armed miscreant near Serfanguri petrol pump in 1999 and died on September 7 in 2000 having serious bullet injury. Garlabata Basumatary holds president ship of ABSU in 1992-1995 and involved with mass movement for separate Bodoland state. He was also president of the then Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) party formed in 1996 and holds this post till his death.

Doneswar Goyary, BTC executive member paid floral tribute to late Basumatary attending as chief guest on the occasion. BTC member Jyotirindra Brahma, leaders from ABSU, ABWWF,Tribal sangha,BPF women wing, citizens from irrespective of organizations paid homage to Basumatary.

Goyary said Basumatary was a leader of visionary, who led Bodoland movement along with Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma to seek separate homeland.

Jyotirindra Brahma,BTC MCLA recalling Basumatary’s contribution towards the awakening of Bodo community during the UN Brahma’s led mass movement for separate Bodoland state said he was a high think thank leader of Bodos along other Bodo leaders.

He was a leader of extraordinary of the union as well as Bodo community. Late Basumatary dreamt to form a great master race Bodo nation in the world but his mission and vision could not successful due to untimely demise,Brahma added.

Raktima Basumatary, widow of Basumatary tearfully said she remembered her husband on his anniversary as irrespective of citizens’ throng to paid floral tribute. She said that tomb of her husband be developed and make grand celebration so that coming generation be recalled his ideology and philosophy among society in coming days.

Marathon race organised in Durga Puja celebration

A marathon competition was orgaised to create awareness on anti-social activities like crimes against women along with Durga Puja celebration at Salakati in Kokrajhar district on Saturday. Hundreds of participants from different places from greater Salakati area participated the marathon race which started from Station Road, Salakati and concluded at the same point completing of 8 kms distance. Former BTC executive member Derhasat Basumatary and social activist Durga Hasda flagged off the the marathon race. The spot holders in the race were awarded with cash award and prizes from the organising committee.

Manas National Park opens for visitors

The Manas National Park (MNP) has re-opened for visitors on Friday. Deputy chief of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Kampa Borgoyary has cut the ribbon to inaugurate the the Manas National Park amidst presence of large number visitors and officials at Bansbari forest range office main gate in Baksa district.

Road safety awareness progrrame held in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: A road safety awareness proramme was held in Kokrajhar district on Thursday by district transport office (DTO), Kokrajhar to create awareness on accident and traffic control in the district. Students from the different colleges participated at the programme. As per official records of the DTO Kokrajhar, there were 148 cases of accidents reported and 69 persons dead in Kokrajhar district in 2018 itself. DTO Kokrajhar Dhajen Basumatary said that the progremme was organised out to create awareness and alertness among the young generation.

Heroin smugglers arrested

KOKRAJHAR: Kokrajhar police apprehended two heroin smugglers from Kokrajhar town late Tuesday evening in a search operation. Kokrajhar police conducted a search operation at one house along the Ganga Hall Road and seized 58.9 grams of heroin. Two persons were apprehended. They were identified as Rinok Narzary (25) of Muthambil Soraibil of Gossaigaon and Mondip Narzary (24 year) of Habrubari under Kokrajhar police station.

KOKRAJHAR: Darangamela MCLA in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Bijit Gwra Narzary is going to take oath and secrecy of the office as executive member of BTC on Wednesday at a programme at BTC Legislative Assembly auditorium hall in Kokrajhar. KOKRAJHAR: Security forces apprehended six hardcore cadres including deputy finance secretary of the National Democratic Front of Boroland-Saoraigwra faction (NDFB-S) from Ripu Reserve forest, Kokrajhar district early Monday morning. Child molester arrested

KOKRAJHAR: A tuition master has been arrested for allegedly molestating of minor girl in Kokrajhar town on Sunday evening. According to family, a 9-year-old girl went for tuition class at the nearby house under the Ward no.2 along with her classmates in the morning around at 8 am. The tuition classes ended at 10 am and other students were allowed to go their houses by 10 itself. But the victim girl was kept inside tuition hall till 12 pm. Boy trampled to death by wild elephants

KOKRAJHAR: A young boy was trampled to death and  a woman left seriously injuried by wild elephant within 24-hour at Bijni in Chirang district on Friday. According to local peoples, a 12-year-old young boy child was trampled to death by a herd of wild elephants at Bishnupur along the India-Bhutan border area under Bijni police station in Chirang district on Friday morning. A herd of 4 wild elephants from nearby Manas National Park were approaching the village in search of foods where the incident took. The young child died on the spot.
