Protest against Tribal Sangha

Barman-Kachari community and All Assam Barman-Kachari Students' Union took out a massive protest rally against Tribal Sangha  at Khoirabari of Udalguri district on Friday.


The programme spearheaded by All Assam Barman-Kachari Students' Union Udalguri district committee was largely attended by people of Barman-Kachari community who holding play-cards  shouted slogans against Tribal Sangha  that include 'Tribal Sangha be alert' , 'Down with Tribal Sangha' 'Our demands needs to be fulfilled' etc;
After the end of the protest rally a protest meet was organized at the premises of Mahiranga Bhawan of Khoirabari.


Addressing the mass gathering President of All Assam Barman-Kachari Students' Union Motilal Barman said," Though the country acquired independence 70 years back yet the community seems to be deprived of their constitutional right."


He further said that " Vested Political circles have deprived the community of their due rights as well as Tribal Sangha has betrayed them", alleged the student leader.


"Though Barman-Kachari community finds its place in list of 14 scheduled  tribal communities of Assam,yet its an irony that Tribal Sangha is doubtful of our tribal identity ", added the student leader.


He further added that ," In the year 2004 the officials of Welfare Of Plain Tribes & Backward Classes Department Government of Assam had assured of viable solution of the same but the issues remain unanswered till date".


"Contrary to that on 24th March 2015 activists of  All Assam Nikhil Barman Kachari Students' Union and Tribal Sangha had called for a meeting at Tribal Rent Housing for development of community village and census of population of the community in the districts and the data of the population was submitted to Tribal Sangha. To the same effect Tribal Sangha constituted a five member sub-committee for Ranghajuli Ghat village of Bhergaon sub-division of Udalguri district  and Tagunbari village of Tamulpur subdivision of Baksa district . The culture,language,ethnic dress,food of the Barman-Kachari were analysed and Tribal Sangha assured of issuance of  Tribal certificates yet it is a million dollar question what has hindered them from keeping up their promises ", the student leader questioned .


The protest rally was also attended by  Nikhil Barman Kachari Students' Union activists,All Assam Barman-Kachari Students' Union Udalguri district committee President Sanjeev  Barman ,Secretary Madhab Barman along with activists of Barman Kachari Jatiya Samiti.

UDALGURI: Based on specific input the Tangla police apprehended a suspected NDFB (S) linkman from Tangla railway station on Tuesday evening.
