Guwahati wears a festive look as the Durga puja festivity grips the premier north eastern city. The air is full of the sounds of Durga hymns accompanied by drumbs and cymbols while the street lights have given the city a fresh lease of life in the evening.
Amid tight security arrangement the city is holding this huge festival with around 3000 pendals in different palces. Many pendals have pulled huge crowd with stat-of-the-art decoration.
Dressed in traditional attire the devotees started thronging the puja pendals from early in the morning in search of divine help for well being. “Since She is the goddess of strength. I therefore, have sought her blissings to wipe out the inimical forces,” said Atib Sarma who visited the Durga Puja pendal in Latasheel in the city on Saturday morning.
Antara Borgohain from Rehabri area in Guwahati offered puja to the goddess seeking her divine help to take on the divisive forces that have thretened to end up the people.
“ My prayer is simple. I have sought her help. Give us strength to take on the divisive forces. These forces have been posing a serious threat to us for the last couple of days,” said Antara, a student of Handique Gilrs College.
The metro district administration has made some special arrangement to ensure peaceful immersion of the goddess in the river Brahmaputra on Tuesday. Police and para military forces have been heavily guarding the puja venues and immersion spots apprehending the attempts to disrupt the festival.
