Evening with a Doctor in GPC

More healthcare institutions have been roped by Guwahati Press Club {GPC} for its ‘Evening with a Doctor’ programs on every Saturday for the benefit of its member-journalists along with their dependants. The series of preventive healthcare initiatives began on 20 August 2016 and till date some of the best hospitals have engaged their doctors in the evening clinic.

Next Saturday the media clinic at the press club premises will be graced by Dr KN Srinivasan, consultant cardiologist from Apollo Hospitals, Chennai. The participants will get free consultations on high blood pressure & cholesterol, irregular heartbeat, heart attack other related ailments etc in the OPD, which will start at 4 pm continue till 6.30 pm.

The last evening OPD was graced by two senior eye specialists namely Dr Subhra Kinkor Goswami and Dr Bijuli Goswami. Associated with Sight First eye-clinic, The 3 December camp witnessed the participation of 45 scribes along with their close relatives including few kids, where the ophthalmologists advised them to follow some guidelines for protecting and prolonging their eye sights.

Till date, practicing physicians from Dispur Hospitals, Down Town Hospitals, GNRC Group of Hospitals, Narayana Super-Specialty Hospitals, Swagat Super-Surgical Institute, Wintrobe Hospital, Nemcare Hospital, Apollo Chennai Hospitals etc have conducted the camps in the press club.

Similarly, the Gauhati Medical College, Medanta-The Medicity Hospital Gurgaon, Apollo Hospitals Hyderabad, Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya Guwahati, Barthakur Clinic, Ayurvedic College Guwahati have shown their interest in conducting the weekly healthcare consultation programs accordingly in the coming days.

It may be noted that Assam’s well known Dispur Hospitals Pvt Ltd, under the leadership of Dr Jayanta Bardoloi, supported the initiative to raise a doctor’s chamber at the press club premises, which was inaugurated by young citizens namely Dhiman, Kristi, Shantanava, Arya, Shambhavi, Nistha and Arunava on the occasion of 70th Independence Day.

“Besides personal health, the initiative is expected to help the scribes to understand various aspects of preventive healthcare in a better way that should encourage them to cover the sector with more authenticity & credibility,” said a GPC statement adding that though the initiative was formulated primarily for the benefit of its members, anyone related to the profession is welcome to participate in the program.

GUWAHATI:Veteran actor Biju Phukan is dead. He was 70. Phukan, the doyen of Assamese film world suddenly died of cardiac arrestin the afternoon. According to information, Phukan, who was not keeping well for the last couple of days suddenly fell seriously ill and his family members rushed him to the Apollo Hospital in Guwahati and died minutes after he was admitted in ICU. NEW DELHI: The Supreme court has reserved its judgment on the validity or acceptability of panchayat documents in the NRC works after it heard both sides on Wednesday. A division bench of the country's apex court comprising Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice RF Nariman completed hearing of the case and reserved the ruling. The bench is hearing the petition on the time for publication of the much-awaited NRC draft along with border fencing issue on November 29 and 30. The home ministry moved a petition before the top court recently seeking permission to extend the date for publication of NRC draft till July 31, 2018 instead of December 31, 2018 triggering huge protest in the state.  
TINSUKIA: The Tinsukia police have averted a huge explosion in the state as they seized some explosive materials from a passenger bus in Jagun on Wednesday. Acting on a tip off, a police team in Jagun conducted a checking on the bus which was coming from Arunachal Pradesh where a huge cache of RDX was found inside a bag. The police then questioned the driver, assistants of the bus along with the passengers. But later the passengers were allowed to go and detained the driver and his assistants for further interrogation. "Investigation is going on. Right now we are not in a position to divulge the findings in detail," said a senior police officer in Jagun.

GUWAHATI:All party legislators are hunkering down in Guwahati on Wednesday to break the logjam over NRC after the Centre sought the Supreme Court's permission to extend the date to publish thr draft. TANGLA:Yet another wild elephant died a hard death three days after it sustained injury inside a dense jungle along the Indo-Bhutan border in Udalguri district on Tuesday. A firewood collector discovered the full grown animal three days back and passed the information to the forest department. But of no avail. GUWAHATI: A special court in Guwahati on Tuesday remanded 14 ACS and APS officers to judicial custody after the end of their 14 days police custody in connection with the APSC scam. The Dibrugarh police probing the scam produced these officers before the special court in the morning and sought no extension of their demand. GOLAGHAT: Tension starts escalating along the Assam-Nagaland border in Golaghat district where the neighbouring north eastern state opened a new sub division in some areas under the territory of Assam. The area in question is the Dhansiri sub division where the people from Nagaland open the Kokoi dub division in full view of the security forces.
