Round Table India’s initiative for Dadara Shishu Niketan

Shankardev Shishu Vidya Niketan School at Dadara near Hajo is ready to get another facelift with the financial support from Guwahati Round Table 235, the Guwahati chapter of Round Table India (www.roundtableindia.org). The completed phase two section, comprising three classrooms, verandah & staircases with a total area of 2,750 square feet, will be inaugurated on 8 January next. Kamrup (rural) district magistrate Vinod Seshan has consented to inaugurate phase two part on Sunday in presence of district police chief PS Mahanta. “The foundation stone for development was laid on the 7 February 2016, where the project was planned to be completed in a phased manner with the first phase has already been completed. It was inaugurated by Assam education minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma,” informed Parveen Goyal, chief of Guwahati Round Table 235.

Addressing the media persons on Wednesday, Goyal also added that they would soon start the construction of phase three and expected to get it completed by the end of 2017. He described his mother organization as a non-religious and non-political entity. The Round Table India has over 4,500 chapters across the country comprising young businessmen, entrepreneurs, technocrats and other professionals. Mukesh Chokhani, secretary to the Guwahati chapter of Round Table India disclosed that they adopted the Dadara Shishu Niketan school under its flagship freedom through education project. He also added that they planned to develop around 10,500 sqft in the school premises with a total outlay of rupees 80 Lakhs.

Project conveners Avishek Kejriwal, Shwet Agarwal, Rahul Sethi with few others were also present on the occasion. Soon after the press meet the Guwahati Round Table 235 office bearers donated two galvanized steel chairs for Guwahati Press Club, which were accepted by the GPC secretary Nava Thakuria in presence of other member-journalists.

Sonitpur police have caught three youth hours after they allgedly took the lead in beheading a 60 year old woman branding as witch on Monday. According to the local residents in Bhimajuli where the incident took place identified as Deliram Bey and his wife instigated the villagers to kill the woman after dregging her out of the home to a river. Those accompanied Deliram namely Naren Ronghang and Raju Bey were also arrested.

Additional chief secretary SC Das will do a preliminary probe in the Louis Berger allegations.Disclosing this in Guwahati on Monday, chief minister Tarun Gogoi said his government is fully prepared to hand over the case to CBI on the basis of the of Das panel findings.Gogoi’s statement assumes significance amid simmering demand for probe in the allegations that a section of ministers and GMDA officers in 2001 received bribe for awarding contract to US based company in water sewerage project.
Various parties and organizations demand CBI probe into the multi crore watergate that touches off a seismic wave of reactions across the nation. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday gave hint of a CBI probe to unearth the scam while BJP MP Ramen Deka said that he would talk to the prime minister demanding a CBI probe. “I will raise the demand at the Parliament session which begins on Tuesday. We need a thorough probe into the scam to identify the culprits,” Deka told reporters.
The All Tai Ahom Students’ Union will gherao the MPs to raise their demands from July 27. A pall of gloom grips the Gauhati University premises a day after Dr. Anamika Ray passed away at a New Delhi-based private hospital.Teachers and students condoled the death of the assistant professor of communication and journalism department on Monday and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members. The Louis Berger episode touches off a seismic wave of reactions across the state putting a former minister in trouble.  Caught in a simmering controversy, former GMDA minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarms said that no body bribed him and the contract for the water project was awarded as per rule of the government. The US department of justice has referred the involvement of officials only and minister, said Dr Sarma. Central BJP leadership is asking Sarbananda Sonowal to take rein of the state president just nine months ahead of assembly polls.Sources told Assam Times that Siddharth Bhattacharya is believed to have received some crucial charges to ensure poll victory.The Union minister, who is the obvious choice for the chief ministerial candidate, is not interested for the assignment. “If he is allowed to take over as the state unit president Sonowal will have to quit as Union minister which he does not want,” said a senior BJP leader.

Normal life in parts of the state remains heavily disrupted following the 12 hour statewide bandh to be marred by an orgy of violent incident on Monday.Vehicles are off from the roads. Shops and markets, schools and colleges, banks and offices are refusing to open under the impact of the bandh call by OBC youth wing. Bandh supporters in some parts tried to enforce the bandh by burning tyres on the road to disrupt the movement of the vehicles.
