Wild elephant kills one

A man was trampled to death by wild elephant at Dwimuguri village under Serfanguri PS in Kokrajhar district late last evening.

According to villagers, an wild elephant reached the village late last evening by 9.30 pm along the village and vandalized two-three houses and a person was trampled to death while villagers tried to disappear the elephant.

He was identified as Hangla Narzary, 33 years old of Dwimuguri village.

Footballer Apurna Narzary to receive Emerging Player award in Bodoland Territorial Region

Apurna Narzary, an international women's football player, has been nominated for the Emerging Player award for 2022-23 by the Sports & Youth Welfare department of the government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Narzary has represented India in several international events and is the daughter of Biswajit Narzary of Khagrabari village in Kokrajhar district. The award will be presented to her during the Baokhungri festival celebration at Baokhungri Hill site near Harinaguri in Kokrajhar. The award includes a citation, traditional Aronai, and a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh. The festival also featured a Hills trekking competition and traditional food showcase competition.

On Friday, the government of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) observed the third BTR Peace Accord Day as "Day of Peace" on Friday.  A massive bike peace rally was held in Kokrajhar, the "City of Peace." Three individuals, including former MLA and senior BPF (Bodoland People's Front) leader Hitesh Basumatary, were arrested by police in Baksa district after a search operation at Basumatary's residential complex resulted in the recovery of a large cache of illegal arms and ammunition.
