Eerie silence in Meghalaya

An eerie silence prevails in Meghalaya a day after the police killed United A’chik Liberation Army (UALA) chief Singbirth N. Marak alias Norrok X. Momin during an encounter.

Operation is still on to find out his elusive associates who sustained injury in the gun fight at Matronggre forest.

Police further claimed to have recovered an AK-rifle along with a pistol and a grenade from the spot.

Acting on a tip off police on Saturday afternoon conducted an operation inside the forest where the armed rebels started firing at the commandos. The dreaded rebel leader who was preparing a massive blueprint to unleash terror with the help of NDFB in Assam died on the spot.

Norrok surrendered before Chief Minister Mukul Sangma a couple of years back and suddenly vanished for a move to take action for his involvement in the killings of two Williamnagar prison officials in East Garo Hills in 2010. He was the kingpin of the Goalpara massacre where 7 Rabha people were killed in 2013.
