SSB instrumental in thwarting of smuggling

Sashastra Seema Bal, deployed on Indo – Nepal and Indo Bhutan border, with mandate of securing these borders is not only guarding international borders with friendly neighbours, but has been instrumental in thwarting  of  smuggling of contrabands through the porous borders.Smuggling of narcotics across these borders is one of the challenges faced by SSB. The recent recoveries and apprehensions made by SSB suggest that these open borders are being used by smugglers for supply of narcotics in small to occasional huge quantities. 

As per information emailed to this correspondent from  OPS Directorate SSB FHQ ,New Delhi ,along Indo – Nepal border with Uttar Pradesh, 42nd Bn. Baharaich of SSB apprehended 3 persons with 60 Gms. of Smack valued at INR. 30 Lacs, smuggled from Nepal to India on 20.03.17. Similarly along Indo – Nepal border with Bihar, 20th Bn. Sitamarhi on 08.03.17, apprehended 2 persons with 2 Kg. Ganja valued at INR 45,000. The 47th Bn.SSB Pantoka, E. Champaran apprehended 1 person and seized 210 Gms. heroin valued at INR 1.05 Crores on 17-03-17. SSB 44th Bn. Narkatiaganj apprehended 1 person who was to smuggle 100 Kgs. of Ganja from Nepal to India valued at INR 20 Lacs on 21-03-17. This battalion also seized 690 Gms. Charas valued at INR 10.35 Lacs and apprehended 1 person on 20.03.17.

Along Indo – Nepal border with W. Bengal, 41st Bn. Ranidanga, Siliguri apprehended 1 person with 152 Gms. Brown Sugar valued at INR 76 Lacs on 20.03.17.

Along Indo – Bhutan border with W. Bengal, 17th Bn. Falakata in a joint operation with Customs department recovered 42 Kg. Ganja on 17.03.17 from a passenger bus plying in border area.

Along Indo – Bhutan border with Arunanchal Pradesh, where Ganja is illegally cultivated inside thick forest in bordering area, 30th Bn. Dirang recovered 15 Kg. Ganja hidden in thick jungle. On 19.03.17, 61st Bn. Bhairabkunda of Udalguri recovered 30 Kg. Ganja valued INR 2,40,000 from the border area.

The achievements made by SSB is the result of efforts made by its troops to curb the menace of narcotics smuggling across the border.SSB is committed to strengthen the government in its efforts to protect nation, especially the young generation from the clutches of narcotics.

TANGLA: A  devastating inferno gutted six houses in Pujakhola locality of Tangla town on Tuesday night at about 9 pm. UDALGURI: A baby hog deer weighing about six kilogram was rescued by  Mithu Sarkar and Ankit Tanti, two activists of Green Valley Wild Life Protection Society, an NGO of Orongajuli tea estate area today at about 3.00 pm and handed over this to the Udalguri forest department in a healthy condition.
