AASAA holds mass conglomeration
The All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA) Udalguri district unit on Sunday held a mass gathering programme at Sikari Bungalow Don Bosco school playground near Tangla on Saturday.
The programme aimed at creating awareness among Adivasi masses against the alleged discrimination of the government as well as the tea company owners in increasing wages to Rs.330,allotment of land pattas to tea garden labours,schedule tribe status of Adivasis among others was presided over by Rabiram Baske and attended by Pradeep Nag, president CEC AASAA, Rajen Horo vice-president CEC AASAA AASAA workers of Udalguri, Dhubri along with representatives of the All Adivasi Women’s Association of Assam,Munda Sahitya Sabha, Kurukh Sahitya Sabha among others.
Addressing the gathering of nearly 500 people Pradeep Nag said," It is quite an irony that despite Adivasi community being one of the indigenious and primitive people,we have been exploited in every spheres,our socio-economic development hindered. "
Lashing out at media and government agencies the student leader said that "Our community has faced identity crisis as instead of being addressed as Adivasi we are forcefully being labelled as tea tribe and ex-tea tribe community. He condemned use of such terms on mere ground of the community's engagement in tea gardens. Hailing the recently held tripartite talks for granting ST status to six communities. The student leader expressed his gratitude saying thay this was the first time Adivasi National Convention were given special priority and separately held talks . Nag however warned of launching strong protest if the government through its daily dillying tactics fails to fulfill the aspiration of Adivasi people who have voted for the saffron party in the assembly and Lok Sabha polls.

AKRSU regional committee organized an annual meet of its members at Chilarai Bhawan located near Tangla College on Sunday last. Followed by hoisting of the student body's flag,homage to martyrs a general meeting was organized at 11 am. In view of the security for the ensuing declaration of Assembly election results on May 19 and growing road accidents , the Udalguri district administration has felt the need organise the traffic system. A team of officials drawn from the district traffic police, transport and enforcement departments leaded by Bhaskar Dutta DTO Udalguri on Sunday undertook a drive at M.B Road near the Tangla HS Field to penalise the drivers of overcrowded vehicles and driving without helmets and driving licences. A spate of suicides specially among youths in the last couple of days has sent shockwaves through the district. An alarming 8 cases of suicides during April 30 to May 13 reported in the district. The last two reports are one of 65 year old Bhubaneswar Deka of Teliapara village who allegedly committed suicide at about 2.30 am on Friday and other of a 2nd semester Political science student of Cotton College. Unidentified miscreants fired rounds of gun shots at the residence of lawyer Rajiv Khaglary at Maibanguri of Udalguri district. The incident occured on Thursday pre-dawn at about 2 am. Miscreants who came in motorbike fired rounds of gun shots with automatic guns and immediately fled away. Police went to the scene and found 7 empty cartridges of AK 47 rifle. A Maha Bishnu Yajna has been organised at Shivaganga Bolbom Nonai river bank, Tangla from May 8 with religious fervour. The Yajna will last for 8 day and will conclude on May 16. Sensation has been prevailing in the district following the killing of NDFB (R ) cadre who was shot dead by unidentified gunman at Kawlibhangi village of Udalguri district on Tuesday afternoon at about 3.20 pm. The cadre was traveling from Tangla to his native village Kawlibhanga with his Pulsar bike bearing registration number AS27 A 2654. At a time when human trafficking cases in Udalguri district has steeply rised, and easy-going girls are lured and trafficked to various parts of the countryi. Two girls of No. 3 Hatimarasuba of Udalguri district, missing since three months were rescued at New Delhi and brought back home by the efforts of Dimakuchi OC Bakul Kakati on Sunday. The traffickers- Anita Munda and Badal have been absconding. Later, the girls were sent for medical treatment to Mangaldai civil hospital.
