Media clinic concludes at Guwahati Press Club

Bangalore based kidney transplant specialist Dr Sankaran Sundar graced the Saturday evening OPD clinic at Guwahati Press Club on 13 May and offered free health consultations to over 20 participants. The senior consultant Nephrologist and head of international kidney transplantation program of Manipal Hospitals Bangalore advised few of them to take further courses of treatment. The participants also got their blood pressure checked by Rahul Sarma from the hospital.

The next Saturday clinic, organized under the series of 'Evening with a Doctor' programs on 20 May, will be attended by Dr Dhrubajyoti Dutta from Down Town Hospitals. Open for the member-journalists of the press club along with their dependents, the camp will begin at 4 pm and continue till 6 pm. The 27 May camp will be conducted by Dr Ashwin Rajagopal, senior consultant on Surgical Oncology from the Manipal Hospitals.

Saraswati Puja celebrated at Tangla

Saraswati Puja was celebrated in Tangla and it's neighbouring places. Students rushed schools and colleges to offer their prayers and seek divine blessings of Goddess Saraswati. Educational institutions were also seen distributing prasads to the students. People of all age groups irrespective of religion, caste, creed thronged the puja Mandaps. Young generation were gripped in the festive spirit and loitered along the streets.


Bodoland Kickboxing championship concludes

The 3rd Bodoland Kickboxing championship-2015 and first triennial conference of the BTC Kickboxing Association was concluded on Friday with three days colourful programme scheduled at Titaguri Iragdao community hall in Kokrajhar. 

Over 150 participants from four districts of the BTAD area participated in the championship and presented their competition in various categories like full contact, light, tigh kick, low kick in various weights. 

Host Kokrajhar district bagged 19 gold and was declared highest gold scorer in the championship. Udalguri district bagged 17 gold following Chirang and Baksa district each got two gold respectively. 

BTC executive member for Sports and Youth welfare department graced the prize distribution ceremony as chief guest and gave the medal and certificates to the winners. 

Utpal Chakraborty, GGM NTPC Salakati, Pradip Chanda, Maneger NTPC Salakati, Simson Mushahary, social activist were also present in the ceremony. 

Armed rebel killed in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: Security forces claimed to have killed an NDFB-S rebel at an encounter in Gossaigaon on Saturday.

According to police, the encounter took place inside the Ripu reserve forest during a combing operation.

Identified as Ricardo Hazuary, the rebel died on the spot early in the morning. A 9mm pistol along with a few incriminating materials were found from his possession.
