Parag Das remembered

The 21st death anniversary of journalist and human right activist Parag Kumar Das was also observed at Nonaiparia High School of Nasanchali on the outskirts of Tangla town on Wednesday. The programme organised by Dimakuchi Press Club started with flag hoisting followed by floral tributes to the portait of Parag Kumar Das.

A career counselling programme was also held on the ocassion which was inaugurated by Amulya Saikia headmaster of Nonaiparia High School. The programme which was presided over by Rudra Deka was graced as resource person by Pranab Jyoti Das Principal Arunodoi Junior College of Tangla.

The resource person apprised the students on different career choices after 10+ 2 ranging from medical and para-medical courses to various engineering courses and diplomas and career in buisiness and commerce to career in visual artist,mass communication and graphic animation. Das urged the students to have strong determination and to forge ahead with their goals. A memorial lecture on the life of Parag Kumar Das was also held where Babu Rabha Hakasum senior journalist,Rabi Ram Boro senior journalist,Jayanta Rajbongshi poet cum journalist spoke on the life of the radical journalist.

Two girl childs were rescued by Tangla GRP from Murkongselek-Rangia Dn Passenger express at 4.30 pm at Tangla Railway station today. There were accompanied by three youths namely Maram Ali, Saidul Ali and Nuruddin Ali. The youths who are in their early 20's are an inhabitant of Khandigar near Rangia of Kamrup. “If there is any community in the State which is exploited and deprived economically and socio-politically, it is none other than the Adivasi community.” This was observed by Rihon Daimari, State Food and Civil Supply and PHE Minister at Orangajuli market complex ground in Udalguri on Tuesday. Daimari attended the open session as chief guest marking the killings of eight protesters who died of bullet wounds during a 12-hour strike to demand ST status for Adivasis, way back in July 25, 2003. Daimari said that the sacrifice of those eight protesters would be an inspiration for generations to come. Their sacrifice will not go in vain. The Adivasi community will reap its fruits, he said....
Rameshwar Lalji Mewara a noted buisinessman and philantrophist of Tangla left for his heavenly abode at his own residence due to old age ailments .He was 90. He was actively associated with various social and religious institutions like Tangla Vishnu Mandir, Tangla Chamber of Commerce.He leaves behind his four sons ,two daughters and a host of relatives and well wishers.His death was widely mourned by Jayanta Bhattacharya Assistant General Secretary AASU,Udalguri district committee AASU have also expressed deep condolences at his demise. A three day long summer arts and craft workshop,  conducted by Lotus Fine Art Society of Tangla concluded here at Adarsha Vidyapith school premises on Sunday. The workshop attended by nearly 80 participants of all age group was graced as resource person by eminent artist of state Dadul Chaliha along with Bhanu Paul of Dhubri. The Zubeen Fan Club members of Udalguri inspired by singer Zubeen Garg went on a collection drive on the streets of Tangla town for the flood affected people on Tuesday. Nearly 25 members led by its President Gunjit Mahanta and Secretary Kaushik Das visited weekly market,banks and commercial establishments . "Though Udalguri district is unaffected by flood,yet we can feel the suffering of the flood affected people", said Chiranjib Kashyap. Pramila Daimari has been selected to represent India in Womens Archery team for Berlin 2017 Hyundai Archery World Cup Stage 4 to be held in Berlin of Germany from August 8 - 13 2017 next. Unwarranted sand mining is adding to the plight of the Nonai River in Udalguri district. The 28 families living in Paschim Nalbari village under Mouza Dakua of Harisinga Revenue Circle office have been spending sleepless nights due to detrimental government policies. The villagers complained that due to rampant sand mining in Nonoi, the river was changing its course and moving towards the inhabited areas. “The river bed has turned unstable, thus disturbing the biodiversity of the region,” said Khagen Boro, whose two bigha land, including his house, has been eroded by the river.
