Parag Das remembered

The 21st death anniversary of journalist and human right activist Parag Kumar Das was also observed at Nonaiparia High School of Nasanchali on the outskirts of Tangla town on Wednesday. The programme organised by Dimakuchi Press Club started with flag hoisting followed by floral tributes to the portait of Parag Kumar Das.

A career counselling programme was also held on the ocassion which was inaugurated by Amulya Saikia headmaster of Nonaiparia High School. The programme which was presided over by Rudra Deka was graced as resource person by Pranab Jyoti Das Principal Arunodoi Junior College of Tangla.

The resource person apprised the students on different career choices after 10+ 2 ranging from medical and para-medical courses to various engineering courses and diplomas and career in buisiness and commerce to career in visual artist,mass communication and graphic animation. Das urged the students to have strong determination and to forge ahead with their goals. A memorial lecture on the life of Parag Kumar Das was also held where Babu Rabha Hakasum senior journalist,Rabi Ram Boro senior journalist,Jayanta Rajbongshi poet cum journalist spoke on the life of the radical journalist.

Gorkha Sanmelan condoles Bhandaris' death

Asom Gorkha Sammelan, Udalguri district has condoled the death of veteran politician and Gorkha leader Nar Bahadur Bhandari, the three time Chief Minister of Sikkim .Bhandari passed away in the age of 78 at Medanta-The Medacity Hospital of New Delhi after brief illness on July 16. Water supply scheme lying defunct in Tangla

The high concentration of fluoride in ground water, which causes fluorosis, has already worried people living in 22 revenue villages of Udalguri district as per survey by the Public Health Engineering Department, Tangla in the year 2016 . Deadly Fluorosis is a disease in which the teeth and bones become brittle. The latest threat has emerged from Ward No. 3 of Tangla town as there have been traces of high fluoride and deadly arsenic in ground water. Several people in Ward No. 3  have reported paralysis, cancer and disability related cases. Youth arrested for selling fake voter ID cards

A youth was arrested by police for allegedly manipulating and issuing fake Voter ID. Police picked the youth identified as Ranjan Pathak (28)  from a cyber cafe at Bazar khola, Tangla from where the youth was operating the fake ID business. A case has been registered at Tangla police station (93/17) under section IPC 424/68. 

Panery Subsidiary Health Centre lacking medicine

In a glaring example of the government’s utter negligence towards the rural area, the Panery Subsidiary Health Centre of Udalguri lacks supply medicines. The SHC located at a distance of 9 km from Tangla town serves people from the places like Teliapara, Garuajhar, Ghagra besides people from number of neighbouring tea estates. There are two doctors and 3 ANN nurses and 2 pharmacists in the SHC. The doctors are alleged to be unpunctual. Bikers group spreads message of cleanliness and conservation

To spread the message of cleanliness  and significance of conservation of wildlife Tangla Bikers Club organised a biking awareness rally from Tangla of Udalguri which culminated at Dawki along the Indo-Bangladesh border of Meghalaya. The rally which flagged off on July 10 concluded on July 13. The rally covered places like Barapani,Mawlynong,Dawki,Cherrapunjee.
