Parag Das remembered

The 21st death anniversary of journalist and human right activist Parag Kumar Das was also observed at Nonaiparia High School of Nasanchali on the outskirts of Tangla town on Wednesday. The programme organised by Dimakuchi Press Club started with flag hoisting followed by floral tributes to the portait of Parag Kumar Das.

A career counselling programme was also held on the ocassion which was inaugurated by Amulya Saikia headmaster of Nonaiparia High School. The programme which was presided over by Rudra Deka was graced as resource person by Pranab Jyoti Das Principal Arunodoi Junior College of Tangla.

The resource person apprised the students on different career choices after 10+ 2 ranging from medical and para-medical courses to various engineering courses and diplomas and career in buisiness and commerce to career in visual artist,mass communication and graphic animation. Das urged the students to have strong determination and to forge ahead with their goals. A memorial lecture on the life of Parag Kumar Das was also held where Babu Rabha Hakasum senior journalist,Rabi Ram Boro senior journalist,Jayanta Rajbongshi poet cum journalist spoke on the life of the radical journalist.

A 4-day long creative writing workshop aimed at honing the writing skills of the students concluded here at Arunodoi Academy school of Tangla on Saturday. The workshop was graced as resource person by author Jebilion Boro, journalist Shajid  Khan,Jadumoni Basumatari and poet Violeena Deka. The Udalguri district committee of All Assam Gorkha Students' Union (AAGSU) has called 12 hour Udalguri district bandh on July 10 demanding immediate arrest of the miscreants involved in the damaging the statue of great Indian freedom fighter Major Swahid Durga Malla at Khowrang in Udalguri district on the fateful night of Wednesday. The statue of Indian freedom fighter Durga Malla was vandalized by some unknown miscreants at Khourang on Tuesday night. Ramesh Dahal, the president of Udalguri district committee Assam Gorkha Sanmilan, vehemently protested against this, calling it an instance of hate mongering. The police administration must enquire into the incident and book the culprits, he added. The dawn to dusk Assam bandh called by six communities demanding scheduled tribe (ST) status brought normal life to a standstill in Udalguri district on Monday. The Jana Jagaran society in a good deed towards mother nature organized a massive plantation drive at Bor Tangla L.P/ME School premises on Thursday.
