Parag Das remembered

The 21st death anniversary of journalist and human right activist Parag Kumar Das was also observed at Nonaiparia High School of Nasanchali on the outskirts of Tangla town on Wednesday. The programme organised by Dimakuchi Press Club started with flag hoisting followed by floral tributes to the portait of Parag Kumar Das.

A career counselling programme was also held on the ocassion which was inaugurated by Amulya Saikia headmaster of Nonaiparia High School. The programme which was presided over by Rudra Deka was graced as resource person by Pranab Jyoti Das Principal Arunodoi Junior College of Tangla.

The resource person apprised the students on different career choices after 10+ 2 ranging from medical and para-medical courses to various engineering courses and diplomas and career in buisiness and commerce to career in visual artist,mass communication and graphic animation. Das urged the students to have strong determination and to forge ahead with their goals. A memorial lecture on the life of Parag Kumar Das was also held where Babu Rabha Hakasum senior journalist,Rabi Ram Boro senior journalist,Jayanta Rajbongshi poet cum journalist spoke on the life of the radical journalist.

The normal life was totally paralyzed in Udalguri district during the 24 hour Assam bandh called by Pradip Ray faction of AKRSU on Wednesday. Tangla, Mazbat, Rowta were heavily affected with complete shutdown of buisiness establishments.Udalguri town owing to its weekly market day evoked mixed response. The dip in overall pass percentage of all the three streams – Arts, Science and Commerce in  the 2017 HS  examination conducted by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council has resulted in dip in cutoff marks in Tangla College compared to last year.The admission process is underway in Tangla College in undergraduate courses in all the three streams arts, science and commerce. International Yoga Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm here at Patanjali Acharjya Kulam in Garuajhar of Udalguri along the Indo-Bhutan border on Wednesday. The incessant rainfall for the past couple of days have thrown life out of gear in the town and it's surrounding places. Continuous downpour which is likely to continue for next few days as per weather forecast has caused incoveniance in the form of waterlogging in various localities. A wild jumbo aged about 5-6 years believed to be a part of herd coming down from forests for food was found dead at 4 No. sector of Bhutiachamg TE in the northern part of Udalguri on Saturday morning. Food poisoning is suspected to be the reason behind its death.
