Major social organisations in Moreh town bordering Myanmar has on Sunday called a 24-hour total blockade of Imphal-Moreh section of NH-102 beginning midnight of June 4 in protest against Saturday’s attack on Assam Rifles at H Mongjang.
The Hill Tribal Council Moreh, the Meitei Council Moreh, the Tamil Sangam and the Gorkha Samaj in an emergency meeting strongly condemned the IED blast that occurred at H Mongjang along the Imphal-Moreh road section of NH-102 yesterday.
Three personnel of 11 Assam Rifles were injured in the ambush suspected to have been carried out by militants. There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack so far.
In a press release the Moreh-based social organisations announced the total road blockade.
Essential services like medical, electricity, water supply, religious and pre-planned programmes and institutions are exempted from the purview of this blockade, it informed.
The decision to impose the proposed road blockade came after the emergency meeting of the social organisations.
“This inhuman act and act of cowardice committed by unknown miscreants need to be condemned by one and all as it serves no good. Every one's life is at stake. None is safe anymore in Moreh including defence forces, the press release said.
It said, “We, the community leaders, earnestly appeal to the perpetrators to put a full stop to such act of violence posing a great threat to public life.”
The press release also expressed abhorrence against such anti-social elements aiming to disturb the peaceful co-existence in Moreh and its surrounding areas.
“We stand by the bravehearts and their families in their hours of suffering for the sake of safety and security of general public,” it added.
