“The Mech-Kachari community has been suffering in identity crisis and afraid of losing their original culture, heritage and identity due to the rapid change of the socio-economic scenario of the state”. This reflected at a conference organized by Sivasagar District unit of Mech-Kachari Jatiya Parishad at Nazira.
The Mech-Kachari Jatiya Parishad Asom has also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister on July 14, where they included their demands of Autonomous Council, setting up of a Separate Mech-Kachari Battalion & full-fledged status of schedule tribes etc.

Mech-Kacharis are also found in large numbers in Mechi Anchal (District) in Nepal and they are Gorkhas as far as Nepal is concerned. They are called Meche as their dwelling place is alongside the Mechi River.Their customs are similar to the Bodo-Kacharis.

Promud Mech is the person who formed the mech tribes to demand for autonomous council in Assam. He is former president of Mech Kachari Jatiya Parishad.

Mech Brothers Had lost whatever they have.Their language culture and identity. they speakes assamese language, they put assamese clothes, and their faith an assamese vaishnaism etc. so they sify should rectify themselves and give space to other kacharies people to embraced them without hesitating.

Automonous council will certainly fulfil some aspirations of the Mech Kachari community.But a political system should not be the ultimate goal of an ethnic community. Because only financial grant from govt cannot help survive a community. we should not confine our hopes and aspirations to a particular system. Our aim should be far beyond a system where we can live with dignity and prosperity and without fear of losing identity.
Gunjan Sharma who was kidnapped by miscreants from Simaluguri on Wednesday has been safely released in the early morning on Thursday. She is a student of class 8th of the Central School, Nazira. She along with other 11 students of her school was abducted by unidentityfied gunman form Simaluguri Madrid Tiniali at 3 PM on Wednesday. SP Sivasagar Bijoy Kuligram and SDPO Nazira Ashif Ahmed launched a massive operation in the Assam Nagaland Border area of Santak Bihubor and found the abducted girl.
A general meeting of government pensoners of Nazira sub division held recently at Nazira Bortola HS School. In the meeting a 21-members-led Nazira District Pensoner Association was formed. Verappa Moilly, at a press meet held at the conferance hall of the ONGC Assam Asset, Nazira on last November 17. Addressing the press, the minister said that under the New Exploration Policy 1999, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) had allowed the ONGC and the Oil India Ltd to tap Shale resources in Six Blocks-Cumbay, Assam-Arkan, Gondawara, K.G. Well known businessman of Nazira Pikam Singh Harlalka passed away at his own residance of Nazira at 2 AM on November 22. He was 88. He survived by his wife and 3 sons. MLA of Nazira Debobrat Saikia and different organisations of Nazira condoled in the death of Horlalka.

Protesting continious price hike and inflation, Sivasagar District unit of the All Tai Ahom Student Unoin (ATASU) on Tuesday burnt the effigy of Food & Civil Supplies Najrul Islam at Dhudar Ali, in front of Nazira Natiya Mandir. Nazira regional unit of All Assam Student Union is protesting against poor quality reconstruction of Dhudar Ali. Rs.17 crore reconstruction work of the historic Dhudar ali is going on. AASU Nazira unit submitted a memorendum to the SDO (C) Nazira on Monday.
