Concern over scribe assault

Electronic Media Forum Assam (EMFA) expresses serious concern over the recent Silchar violence where television journalists were also targeted by a section of people. The forum urges the State chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, also in charge of home portfolio, to adopt policies for safeguarding the journalists on duty in the line of police and physicians. JFA concern over scribe killing

Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) expressed shock and serious concern over the murder of three journalists in five months (since 1 January 2017) in the country and reiterated its old demand for a comprehensive national action plan to safeguard the scribes and ensure justice to the victims. The third case of assassination of journalists has been reported from Madhya Pradesh, where Kamlesh Jain was shot dead in his office at Pipliyamandi locality of Mandsaur district on the evening of 31 May. Kamlesh, 42, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where the attending doctors declared him brought dead. GNRC doctor to attend media clinic

The next Saturday evening OPD clinic at Guwahati Press Club will be conducted by Dr Samarjyoti Bora, a practicing urologist from GNRC Hospitals, Guwahati. The camp, open for GPC member-journalists along with their dependants, will begin at 4 pm (of 3 June) and continue till 6 pm. Besides free heath related consultations, the participants will also get the opportunity to check their blood pressure in the camp.

Green Oscar winner at press club

First Green Oscar winner from northeast India, Purnima Devi Barman will grace the ‘Meet the Press’ program of Guwahati Press Club tomorrow. The interactive session with the wildlife biologist & conservationist will start at 11 am in the press club auditorium. Member-journalists of GPC are requested to participate in the program.

Workshop on environmental journalism concludes

A day long workshop on environmental journalism was conducted at Guwahati Press Club on 27 May 2017, where 25 participants interacted with the resource persons. Organized by Aranya Suraksha Samiti in association of Electronic Media Forum Assam, the workshop for the practicing journalists was graced by former forest official Bhupen Talukdar, senior journalists Pranay Bordoloi & Nava Thakuria. JFA to remember Mithu Choudhury on 26 May

Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA), while condoling the untimely demise of journalist Mithu Choudhury on 19 May 2017, organizes a memorial meeting at Guwahati Press Club (GPC) on Friday next. Earlier the JFA urged Assam chief minister Sarbanand Sonowal to sanction some financial help to the bereaved family. Mithu, 53, breathed his last on Friday evening at his rented residence in the city and his cremation was done in the same evening.
