AIEM meet focuses education

The All India Education Movement (AIEM) focussed education for the minoroties in Assam as it held an interactive meet of the personalities engaged  in this sector at thd Gauri Sadan in Guwahati on Saturday.

AIEM, a non-political outfit, had planned an All India Educational Caravan in co-operation with Saiyid Hamid Foundation, New Delhi. The Caravan is presently travelling through ten states of northern, eastern and central India for 13 days from October 17 to  29. 

Starting from Agra on October 17, the Caravan travelled through Lucknow, Kanpur, Patna, and Kishanganj to reach Guwahati on the morning of Saturday. 

The meet in the city was presided over by Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Choudhury, eminent lawyer and social worker. Prof Abdul Mannan, former head of Department of Statistics, Gauhati University presented a report on the present educational status of the minority communities in Assam. 

Aman Ullah Khan, President of AIEM and leader of the Caravan, shared his experiences gathered during the campaigns in other states of the country. M Salman Ahmed Siddiqui (Dubai) and Tarique Azam (Malaysia), who are also accompanying the Caravan, stressed upon the importance of education and skill development and cited examples from their experiences abroad. 

Other members of the Caravan - Prof Khawaja M Shahid, Abdul Rashid, Dr Idrees Qureshi, Maulana Abrar Ahmad Islahi, Dr Ubaid Iqbal Asim, Er Tarique Azam, and Dr Abdul Quadeer also addressed and interacted with the audience on the occasion. 

Reshma NC Shah, founder Director, River Education Foundation; Zakir Hussain, Chairman, NEF Group of Institutions; Dr Taufique Borborah, former Principal, Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh; and Inam Uddin Ahmed, President, Assam Zakat Fund participated in the interactive session that dealt with issues relating to school enrolment, prevention of school dropout incidence, re-enrolment of dropouts and quality education in schools. 

The meeting ended with the concluding remarks made by A Sabur Tapader, founder Director, Unity Education Foundation, Guwahati. 

 

The Caravan left for Kolkata in the evening en route to New Delhi where the campaign will come to an end on October 28.
