Namrup: The All Assam Students Union centrally observed the Martyrs’ Day in Namrup on Sunday with redoubled zeal and vow to safeguard the identity of Assam and its people. In his speech adviser of the state’s most influential student body Dr. Samujal Kumar Bhattacharjee slammed the ruling clique for lack of commitment to implement the Assam Accord, 1985 which marked an end to the 6 year long agitation to detect and deport the illegal Bangladeshi settlers.
“We have lost the lives of 855 people in the name of the Assam agitation. Thirty two years have passed since we inked the tripartite pact with Delhi and Dispur. But the promises, mostly, have remained unimplemented,” he said. An emotional Bhattacharya said, “we wont allow any body to remain idle. We will fight till we have the last drop of blood. We won’t allow Delhi and Dispur to belittle the sacrifice of the 855 martyrs.” Same sentiment echoed in the speeches of BVFCL HS school principal Hiranya Hazarika, AASU President Dipankar Nath, General Secretary LurinJyoti Gogoi and Kamala Kanta Gogoi, the head of the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha.
