Kokrajhar: The Assam Tribal Sangha demands measures to protect the tribal belt and blocks in the state to meet welfare and development of the tribals.
The demand took a formal snap as the organization held its triennial conference of the Kokrajhar district unit at Jharbari High School on Saturday.
Sangha president Mahesh Chandra Brahma hoisted Sangha flag followed by 14 primary committees while Vice president of the sangha Bhojnath Narzary paid homage to martyrs on the day.
Brahma slammed the state government for not taking any measures towards the tribal peoples. He demanded strict protection of tribal belt and blocks mean for tribal communities, fill up the backlog posts across the state.
He said that there are 12,155 backlog posts remained vacancies which are mean for the tribal peoples since long years.
He alleged that the government has not any welfare initiative to the tribal communities in the state. He has warmed to take stern agitation in support of issue and demands of the tribal peoples in the state.
The Dibugarh police probing the APSC scam on Friday filed its status report before a special Court in Guwahati with details of 25 ACS and APS officers who allegedly paid cash to chairman Rakesh Paul and his closed associates to ensure selection. The Delhi police have arrested a Supreme Court lawyer from Assam a couple of days after his car rammed into a biker after an altercation who died in the hospital. Identified as Rohit Krishna Mahanta, was arrested on Friday hours after the youth who sustained injury died at a hospital. A 3.1 magnitude tremor rocked the north eastern state of Manipur a couple of hours after the one of 4.4 magnitude striking no less struck panic on Friday. An orgy of violence marred the 12 hour Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday called in protest against the Centre’s move to accord citizenship to the Chakma and Hajong refugees in the north eastern state. Security forces fanning in search of trouble mongers claimed to have captured a dreaded a rebel along with his associate in Karbi Anglong district on Tuesday. Identified as Jona Singh Rongpi, and Ranjit Bhumji, the KPLT rebels were arrested during a joint operation by CRPF and Police from Jamindar Teron. A lower court in Dibrugarh remanded Akhil Gogoi to fourteen days judicial custody after police produced the peasant leader before it following the end of police custody. Police sought Gogoi in their remand again for ten days to intensity the probe. But the court rejected it and sent the KMSS leader to the jail who was arrested for his open appeal to the people to remain prepared for armed struggle if the government fails to deliver the goods. Gogoi is set to move another bail plea before the court on Tuesday. At least 15 people were feared to have met watery grave along the Assam-Meghalaya border when a boat carrying them on a river capsized under the impact of a huge storm on Sunday. The tragic incident took place on the river Sabanjoria in Khalisbhatia in the afternoon. Ten bodies were fished put till Sunday evening and the search operation which suspended due to darkness resumed on Monday morning where five more bodies were fished out. Ten other people ate said to have been missing till now. Local residents along with SDRF jawans have been continuing the search operation on the river bed and more bodies are expected to fished out.
