The media fraternity in the city today (22 September) demonstrated their angers against the murder of journalists across the country. The scribes under the banner of North East Union of Working Journalists (NEUWJ) gathered in front of Guwahati Press Club and raised demands for punishing the culprits who killed young journalist Shantanu Bhowmik in Tripura recently. The demonstrators also urged the Manik Sarkar led government at Agartala to compensate the bereaved family of Shantanu, who left behind his mother and only sister.
Prior to the protest-demonstration a meeting was also organized at the press club, where NEUWJ president Joykanta Sarma, general secretary Manoj Agasti with senior journalists Pulin Kalita, Nava Thakuria etc were present. The meeting unanimously resolved demanding a special protection law for journalists on duty across India.
