9th International Expo from 31st Oct

The 9th edition of the biggest annual shopping carnival of Eastern India International Expo 2008, Guwahati, organized by Leo Advertising in association with Grassland, Kaziranga, a unit of Leo, will be held at the Assam Engineering Institute playground at Chandmari here from October 31 to November 13.

Addressing mediapersons in India Club, Leo Advertising Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Musthaq Khan said around 250 business organisations from the country as well as abroad will participate in the shopping extravaganza this year. 13 independent nations have confirmed their participation and it is likely to go up as the organizers are vying for more nation at the expo.The foreign countries this year include Thailand, Myanmar, Pakistan, Egypt, Bangladesh, Kenya, Philippines, Malaysia, China and Nepal, while Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will be making their maiden appearance. "Major attraction of the Expo will Thailand and Thai items," said Khan.

Leo every year recognizes personalities from various field. The International Expo awards conferred on various distinguished personalities in different fields by the organizers every year will also be given away during the two-week marketing extravaganza. Each awards carries a cash of Rs 1 lakh besides a citation and other gifts.Singer duo Dilip Sharma and Sudakshina Sharma was awarded before former's sudden demise.

The singing couple were conferred the International Expo Silpi Sanman 2008 for their contribution in the field of music. The other award winners are veteran journalist Tilak Hazarika — Sangbadik Sanman 2008 for his life long contribution in the field of journalism, and ace national women boxer Kalpana Choudhury and badminton player Bibari Basumatary —International Krira Sanman 2008 for their outstanding feats in the field of sports. A special prize of Rs 20,000 will also be awarded to ace swimmer national Alvis Ali Hazarika.
