KOKRAJHAR: Saloon workers in Kokrajhar town staged a protest in support of demanding financial assistance from government, PPE kit, medical supports during the ongoing lockdown. They warned to go agitation if their demands are not meet and expressed that they have been facing severe hardships in their leading life due to lockdown.
Nearly hundred members under the banner of Kokrajhar Saloon Association carried out sit-in-protest at Kokrajhar Press Club premises today along with showing Saloon kits as Saloon shops are remaining off since few three months in the wake of COVID-19 across the region and that led the Saloon workers to the miserable conditions strictly.
There are nearly 300 Saloon shops in entire Kokrajhar district including 60 Saloon in Kokrajhar town itself. The association has demanded one-time financial assistant Rs.50, 000 per shop from government, medical supports to work during the lockdown periods. The association has alleged that though government assured financial supports during the lockdown, yet no any little financial supports reached to the Saloon shops.The association has warned to go agitation and decided to keep close of all Saloon till achieve fulfillment of the demands and grievances of the association.
A memorandum was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar and sought a little financial supports towards the Saloon workers, but no any single steps were initiated to meet the demands and issues of the Saloon association.
Secretary of the Kokrajhar Saloon Association, Birendra Thakur said that the salon shops have been remaining off since the start of lockdown across the country and leading the life under severe miserable situations as no little financial support or aids reached till date for the saloon shop owners.He said that the association members have deposited their all Saloon shop related materials including Scissors,comb etc to the association because the COVID-19 affected towards the Saloon workers. He informed that the association members are leading life under severe hardships and no any supports from government was received till date during the ongoing lockdown. He has put demand to the state government to extend financial support towards the Saloon member houses.
