Tirtha Prasad Saikia Appointed as the New Director of NEADS

Jorhat: The North-East Affected Area Development Society (NEADS) has appointed Tirtha Prasad Saikia as its new Director. He will be replacing Girin Chetia, who founded and headed the organization since 2000.

Tirtha Prasad Saikia, a former Joint Director of NEADS, was nominated and approved by the governing board with a rigorous selection process that was led by Girin Chetia and Jiban Ch. Gohain, the Governing Board Chairperson of NEADS on January 26, 2022. He brings with him extensive grassroots experience, visionary leadership, and a passion for community-based interventions.

As the new Director, Tirtha has taken charge on February 5, 2023. NEADS welcomes him with open arms, recognizing his significant contributions to the organization over the last 11 years. During this time, he has been involved in a wide range of interventions, including humanitarian response and advocacy, disaster risk reduction, climate justice, human rights, and sustainable development.

Tirtha's strategic approach to non-profit management, planning and resource mobilization, project delivery, and stakeholder management has helped NEADS achieve new heights. He has also collaborated with various networks and coalitions at the local, national, and international levels and engaged with government bodies and institutions in various development processes.

NEADS hopes that Tirtha's appointment will further bolster its commitment to promoting the welfare of the poor and marginalized sections of society, and to providing relief in times of crisis. The organization looks forward to his leadership in achieving their goals of addressing humanitarian crises, exploitation, and poverty in the state.

Confidential letter strikes controversy

GUWAHATI: Former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta dropped a bombshell on Sunday revealing that the Centre is prepared to grant citizenship to the Hindu refugees who came to the country six years back. DUDHNOI: A day after getting Akhil Gogoi in their custody, the Dudhnoi police is producing the KMSS leader before a local court on Sunday. KMSS leaders and workers who are gathering in large number at the court premises hope that Gogoi would be able to procure bail in the afternoon. Gangraped girl in Boko dead in GMCH

GUWAHATI:Shock and anger grip Assam again when a girl from Boko died in Guwahati Medical College Hospital on Saturday nine days after three local youths gangraped her. The incident took place on December 14 in Rongapani area when three local youths came to her house and gangraped her in the absence of her parents. The seriously injured girl was rushed to the GMCH where she died on Saturday triggering huge protest in the entire area. As the sad news spread like wildfire in the morning people in large number came out to the road demanding immediate arrest of the perpetrators.
