Parag Kumar Das Journalism Award 2023 to Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty

Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty, a veteran journalist, will receive the Parag Kumar Das Journalism Award 2023. The award includes a cash prize of Rs 25,000, a citation, and a memento. The award ceremony will take place on May 17.

Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty currently serves as the National Affairs Editor for the digital news publication 'The Wire.'

The Parag Kumar Das Journalism Award was established to honor the courageous journalist Parag Kumar Das, who lost his life while fighting for the truth. The award recognizes and encourages journalists who tirelessly uncover the truth and bring it to the public.

The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has demanded an urgent measure by the Centre to declare Assam flood and erosion as a national calamity. This is apart from a prompt action to save Majuli from the brink. Union home minister Rajnath Singh will be on a day long visit to Assam to take stock of the situation where 27 people lost their lives till Friday. The Union minister is expected to arrive in Guwahati at 10 in the morning and would make an aerial survey in some flood–hit districts. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked all MLAs in the flood-hit areas to apprise him of the situation as soon as possible. Talking to reporters in Dispur on Wednesday, Sonowal announces Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the flood victims. “We don’t have any fund crunch in the time of flood. A devastating flood wave in Assam has forced the Assam assembly to suspend the budget session till August 8. The Business advisory committee of the House took the unanimous decision in view of the flood situation where 13 people died and nearly 20 lakh people have been affected.
