Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp Empowers Young Innovators at NEHU

NEHU Campus, 20th April, 2023 - The National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), Department of Science and Technology (DST), GoI, has kicked off the Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp (EAC) at the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) campus. The three-day program, organized by the Department of Biomedical Engineering, NEHU and sponsored by the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), Ahmedabad, aims to equip over 75 students from diverse backgrounds with the knowledge and skills required for entrepreneurship.

Esteemed experts from both industry and academia have gathered to interact with the participants, shedding light on crucial topics such as entrepreneurship, start-ups, innovation, marketing ideas, and generating resources for product commercialization. This EAC marks the second camp organized after the successful event held in March 2023.

The inauguration of the program took place on 20th April, 2023, with Professor Iftekhar Hussain, Dean of the School of Technology at NEHU, serving as the Chief Guest. The Guest of Honor, Dr. Nilesh Trivedi, Assistant Director of MSME, Tura, along with Dr. P. Khongji, Head of BSSS, NEHU, Dr. Sudip Paul, Teacher-Incharge of the BME Department, NEHU, and Dr. Dinesh Bhatia and Dr. Punit Gautam, Course Coordinators, were also present at the opening ceremony.

In his welcome speech, Dr. D. Bhatia, Course Coordinator, outlined the objectives of the awareness camp, emphasizing the long-term benefits it would bring to society. He highlighted the abundant opportunities and challenges that young entrepreneurs face, particularly in India, now the world's most populous country, surpassing China. Dr. Bhatia expressed sincere gratitude to both the Central and State governments for their whole-hearted support in organizing such camps in the region.

Dr. Nilesh Trivedi shed light on the role of MSME and the Government of India in promoting entrepreneurship and innovation, while also highlighting the various funding opportunities available to support such initiatives. Dr. P. Khongji expressed his satisfaction with the Entrepreneurship Camp and commended the role of his department in initiating this venture.

Professor Hussain, the Chief Guest, underscored the transformative power of start-ups and entrepreneurs in shaping the country's future. He advocated for the establishment of data centers and suitable market opportunities in the North-East region, enabling young individuals to unlock their potential. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of staying updated with recent technological trends, highlighting the pivotal role that courses like the EAC play in connecting people with rapid developments.

Dr. S. Paul highlighted the role of technology in meeting industry needs and sustaining technological advancements.

Concluding the ceremony, Dr. Punit Gautam extended a vote of thanks to all the university and external stakeholders involved in organizing the event. He expressed appreciation for the course participants and resource persons who came together for this enlightening awareness camp.

The EAC at NEHU promises to empower aspiring entrepreneurs, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and tools to thrive in the dynamic world of start-ups and innovation.

Season of foundation stones in BTAD

Gold biscuits seized in Guwahati airport

GUWAHATI: Security forces seized gold weighing nearly 1 KG from a person at the Lokoriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport on Friday. Acting on a tip off, the CISF jawans raided Ankush Chetti who was preparing to depart the city to New Delhi by the IndiGo flight in the morning. When thoroughly checked, the gold biscuits worth ₹30 lakh was discovered in his rectum. He was arrested and the biscuits were recovered at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital. Bike rally for another BVFCL unit

NAMRUP: Hundreds of bikers took out a huge rally in Namrup on Friday mounting more pressure on the government to expedite the proposed fourth unit of the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation. With banners and festoons tied in their two wheelers demanding the early to set up the proposed unit, the bikers started the rally from the BVFCL main gate to Naharkatia SDO (civil) office where they submitted a memorandum reiterating their demand. Rhino moving in human habitate

MORIGAON: Two stray rhinos have been unleashing no less terror in a remote hamlet in Morigaon district after it came from the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary on Thursday night. Local residents in Doipara spotted one of the rhinos moving in the open field in the morning. A team of forest guards has been trying to drive the rhinos back to the sanctuary. "I heard two rhinos. But came to see one. As I was walking in the open field came to see the animal moving to and fro striking panic among the cattle," said a villager. Devastating fire in Namrup

NAMRUP: Properties worth more than ₹3lakh reduced to ashes when a devastating fire engulfed three houses in Namrup on Friday. The incident took place in the wee hours in Nagadolong area where the fire which originated from electric short circuit engufed the house of Jayanta Bokolial. Local residents in large number came to the rescue. But by then the fire spread to his rented houses and the cowshed which charred his cattle to death. It took several hours to extinguish the fire which already ravaged properties worth lakhs of rupees. There is,however, no loss of human life.

Extortionist held in Udalguri

DIMAKUCHI: Army jawans on Thursday claimed to have captured a hardcore rebel in Udalguri who has been unleashing terror in the form of extortion for the last couple of weeks. Acting on a tip off, the Red Horn division jawans picked up Mukuta Boro as he was on the way to Khairabari to extort money. A pistol along with a magzine was seized from his possession.
