Skill Development Thrives in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar: 23rd May, 2023-The event, organised by the Skill, Employment, and Entrepreneurship Department (SEED), was held on May 23, 2023, at the Auditorium Hall of Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Kokrajhar. The event witnessed the presence of the Chief Executive Member of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Shri Pramod Boro; Executive Member of BTC, Shri Wilson Hasda; Executive Member of BTC, Dr Nilut Swargiary; Advisor to the SEED, Shri Ranjan K Baruah; Former MLA Tamulpur, Shri Chandi Basumatary; Joint Secretary SEED, Shri Bhaskar Jyoti Rajbongshi, ACS; Council Head of the SEED, Shri Pranjit Das; Project Head Assam of Anvil Cables Private Limited, Mr. Ujjwal Chaudhary; BTR Development Fellow, Miss Banrilang S. Kharsati.

The CEM of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) has been emphasising bringing about faster and more sustainable socio-economic development in the BTR. In order to accomplish the development goals, the present BTC government has strategized to work in mission and target mode, thereby launching an ambitious 100 Days 150 Targets programme on May 4, 2023 where the BTR Development Fellowship will be working closely with the line departments in achieving the targets.

The SEED has achieved one of the six targets of the department within 20 days since the launch of the 100 Days programme. Evening classes in the 3rd shift, where 164 trainees will be trained in 5 different trades, have commenced at ITI Kokrajhar.

The department will also be providing skill training to 10,120 trainees in different job roles, which is also one of the department's six targets under the 100 Days targets. The SEED has taken several skilling initiatives and plans to roll out more this year. Apart from skilling, they also encourage students to take up entrepreneurship. As a first step to making them self-employed, the department will be giving the toolkit to 1163 trainees for the trades of electrician and self-employed tailor.

On the occasion, Shri Pramod Boro addressed the gathering by appreciating the ITI students for their performance at the campus placement drive, where 142 students from Kokrajhar and Chirang got placed at Anvil Cables India Private Limited and ITC Limited.

SEED is also planning to conduct another campus placement drive at ITI Bhergaon for the job aspirants of Baksa and Udalguri District. A two days’ workshop was conducted on 22nd and 23rd May 2023 on enhancement of training and operational ecosystem of ITIs of BTR where 30 participants including superintendent and instructors were present under the facilitation of Shri Ranjan K Baruah and Shri Pranjit Das. The participants have come up with an action plan to improve the efficiencies of ITI and make it more vibrant.

BTR has seen immense growth over the last 2 years with construction of 4 new government ITIs and now comprising a total of 8 ITIs Anchorunder the leadership of the present govt. and an increment of seats from 840 to 1484.

Overall, the event celebration and felicitation ceremony, with the presence of the CEM of BTC and dignitaries, proved to be a remarkable occasion, amplifying the significance of acknowledging and motivating students.CEM appealed to the youths of BTR to enrol in ITI as it is one of the prominent skill-based technical institutions for better job prospects and stay ahead of their peers.

Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) team won the trophy defeating Lai Autonomous Council (LADC) of Mizoram 1-0 in the final match of inter sixth schedule premier league -2022 being held at SAI SAG center,Kathalguri Titaguri in Kokrajhar district. Professor Indira Boro, head of the department of Bodo for Bodoland University, has been named for an award from the Sahitya Akademy for translation in Bodo language. Dr. Boro has been named for the translation of her book Hirimba (originally written in Assamese by Jayanti Gogoi) Presently, Boro is the head of the department of Bodo at Bodoland University. She has authored many books in Bodo language and contributed a lot to the uplift and development of Bodo literature. The Assam state election commission announced  the date and scheduled for the by-election for No.22 Koklabari constituency in Bodoland Territorial Region on 8th June. Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Assam's state election commissioner, Alok Kumar issued the notification for conduct the bye poll for Koklabari constituency in Baksa district with effect from Thursday.
