Durand Cup Trophy Tour Kicks Off in Kokrajhar with Enthusiasm

Kokrajhar, often referred to as the City of Peace, witnessed a grand kickoff for the trophy tour of the 133rd edition of the Durand Cup 2024, a prestigious football tournament, on Sunday. The event, held at the Bodofa Cultural Complex, Chandamari, saw a significant gathering of sports enthusiasts, citizens, Indian army officials, and government representatives from the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and Assam.

Assam's Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare, Nandita Gorlosa, along with the Chief Executive Member of BTR, Pramod Boro, and Indian Army officials, flagged off the event. The ceremony marked the arrival of the Durand Cup trophy in Kokrajhar, which was displayed amidst a large and enthusiastic crowd.

Organized by the Indian Armed Forces and supported by the governments of BTR and Assam, this is the second consecutive year that Kokrajhar is hosting the event. The city has gained popularity for its smooth organization of the tournament, reflecting the region's progress and peace.

In his address, Pramod Boro highlighted the significance of hosting the Durand Cup in Kokrajhar, emphasizing the region's transformation over the past 3.5 years from a cycle of violence to an era of peace and progress. He noted that the event's successful hosting is a testament to the pervasive tranquility in BTR today.

"It was a delighted moment to attend the trophy unveiling and flag-off ceremony of the 133rd edition of the Durand Cup 2024 in Kokrajhar, the City of Peace. Football is a passion for all citizens of BTR, young and old. Our government has made assiduous efforts to enhance BTR’s sporting infrastructure and foster an environment of peace where budding sporting talents can blossom and flourish," Boro said. "Kokrajhar is proud to host the historic Durand Cup 2024 once more. This event will give immense impetus to the development of sports, particularly football, in our region. I wish for the smooth success of the Durand Cup, attracting sports lovers and citizens alike," he added.

Minister Gorlosa extended her best wishes and greetings to the Durand Cup organizing committee and emphasized the healthy sporting environment that football fosters. The event also featured a multi-community cultural demonstration, adding to the festivities.

Other notable attendees included Cabinet Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma, MPs Rwngwra Narzary and Joyanta Basumatary, BTCLA Speaker Katiram Boro, Lt. Gen. RC Srikanth, VSM, Chief of Staff, HQ Eastern Command, Chairman DCOC, and eminent footballer Halicharan Narzary.

Preparations for the Durand Cup football tournament, scheduled to be held from 30th July at the SAI stadium playground in Kokrajhar, are in full swing. The stadium has been beautifully decorated, and the gallery is well-equipped to accommodate spectators.

KOKRAJHAR: A tuition master has been arrested for allegedly molestating of minor girl in Kokrajhar town on Sunday evening. According to family, a 9-year-old girl went for tuition class at the nearby house under the Ward no.2 along with her classmates in the morning around at 8 am. Boy trampled to death by wild elephants

KOKRAJHAR: A young boy was trampled to death and  a woman left seriously injuried by wild elephant within 24-hour at Bijni in Chirang district on Friday. According to local peoples, a 12-year-old young boy child was trampled to death by a herd of wild elephants at Bishnupur along the India-Bhutan border area under Bijni police station in Chirang district on Friday morning. A herd of 4 wild elephants from nearby Manas National Park were approaching the village in search of foods where the incident took. The young child died on the spot. Five arrested for carrying cattles illegally

Five persons were arrested by te police for illegally carrying cattles in five trucks on Thursday morning at Karigaon national highways in Kokrajhar district. Police intercepted the trucks carrying 80 cattles, including 14 buffaloes during the petrolling in the 31C National Highways. The trucks were bound for Nine Mile, Guwahati from Pandipara and Sonapur of West Bengal. The cattles were purchased by Pioneer Livestocks. During the checking, Pioneer Livestocks and truck drivers failed to show proper documents.Police later seized the trucks and the cattles. KOKRAJHAR: Bongaigaon XI Star Club,Bongaigaon beat Dotma Anchalik Sports Association (DASA), Dotma 1-0 in today's quarter final match of the ongoing Daoharu Mungkhlong football trophy being played at Dotma HS School playground in Kokrajhar district. Arms recovered

KOKRAJHAR: Security forces have recovered large number cache of arms, ammunitions and explosives inside Manas National Park (MNP) under Gavarukundha range near Panbari under Bijni police station in Chirang district on Tuesday morning. A joint operation was launched on Tuesday evening by Chirang Police in the general area of Gavarukunda inside deep jungles of MNP near Panbari and recovered huge amounts of arms, ammunitions and explosives on a buried condition. Lower Assam Commissioner SS Meenakshi Sundaram has started investigation into the alleged scuffle between Kokrajhar SP Rajen Singh And EAC Sailen Das recently at Gaurang Valley Hotel Kokrajhar. New political party forms in BTAD

KOKRAJHAR: A new political outfit was floated in Bodoland Territorial Areas District (BTAD) at a convention held at Pathshala in Baksa district on Sunday. The newly floated political party has been named as Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) headed by Kokrajhar Lok Sabha MP Naba Kumar Sarania. The party has appointed ten executive members. In the meeting, BTAD army was also formed to work to the extensive services amongst all sections of the society. Sarania said that the newly floated political party will work for all round development of the region. Daoharu Mungkhlong trophy begins

Kokrajhar: The 22nd edition of the Daoharu Mungkhlong Football Trophy 2019 began here at Dotma HS School playground in Kokrajhar district on Sunday. 10 teams from the state and West Bengal are participating in the competition. KOKRAJHAR,SEP 21: "United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) is fully prepared to contest the upcoming BTC general council election to be held next year. There is no word of unification with ruling BPF", said UPPL president Urkhao Gwra Brahma.
