Memorial Meeting Held in Nazira to Honor Educationist Aboni Borthakur

Nazira paid tribute to the late Aboni Borthakur, a distinguished educationist and former Principal of Nazira College, with a memorial meeting held on Sunday. The event, organized at the Nazira M.C. Club, was presided over by Atul Gogoi, a former Principal of another college.

The gathering saw the presence of several notable figures, including retired professor Dr. Provat Borah, renowned writer Juri Borah Borgohain, Nazira MLA Debabrata Saikia, and CPI leader Kanak Gogoi, among others. The speakers reflected on Borthakur’s contributions to education and society, celebrating his legacy as a thinker and academician.

A highlight of the meeting was the unveiling of a memorial book that explores various facets of Aboni Borthakur’s life and work, offering a fitting tribute to his enduring impact. The event underscored the deep respect and admiration the community holds for the late educationist.

Durga puja fever still grips Assam as the annual Hindu festival enters fourth day on Monday. Puja pendals in the nook and corner of the premier north eastern state are teeming with devotees of all ages who are offering pujas to the goddess of strength for peace and prosperity. Amid the sounds of hymns, drums and cymbals, the devotees started waiting in long queue in front of the goddess to seek her blessings from early in the morning. The 62nd wildlife week concluded at Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve on Friday. A huge road blockade on a vital road in the outskirt of Guwahati heavily disrupted transport services on Saturday. Durga puja festivity grips Assam as the premier north eastern state is celebrating the annual Hindu festival from Friday. Dressed in traditional attire, devotees from early in the morning started offering pujas to the goddess of strength acorss the state. Many Durga puja committees are holding huge cultural functions in the evening apart from drawing, dancing and music competitions among the children. The authorities have asked the puja committees to install CCTV cameras at the pendal to ensure better safety and security during the festival.
