Rong Bong Terang is Asom Sahitya Sabha president

Noted litterateur Rong Bong Terang has been elected the new president of Asom Sahitya Sabha on Sunday. The announcement to this effect was made by the state’s largest literary body came up at the Bhgawati Prasad Baruah Bhawan in Guwahati after the counting of votes sent by the district bodies ended. Kanak Chandra Sarma will be vice president while Dr Paramananda Rajbanshi has been elected as the secretary of the literary body. Terang is a litterateur whose epoch Rong Milir Hanhi sent him into the acme of glory. Contemporary social life in the state is very much there in his literary works . Jak Heruwa Pakhi is all about the ethnic frenzy between Karbis and the Kukis. The Assam agitation is what dominates his Krantikalor Oshru….During that time, he was attracted by the prose works of Hem Barooah’s Hagor Dekhisa not to speak of Banikanta Kakoti’s Sahitya Aaru Prem. Besides, he wrote a lot for Karbi language and literature. Mention may be made of Karbi Lamkuru, Karbi Kala Aaditag. Besides, some of his notable works in Assamese literature are Rong Milir Hanhi, Karbi Sahitya-Sanskritit Abhumuki, Nila Orchid, Smritir Papori and what not. It was Terang who for the first time used the word Karbi Anglong in his lyric.

Rongbong Terang is a great writer and a well-known personality of Diphu, Karbi Anglong in Assam. His work is really appreciable and unique. Assam Sahitya Sabha will go a long way under his presidentship. We wish him all the good luck and prayers for future.

Asam Sahity Sabha since its inception selecting the person as its President who hiself is an institution. This time Rongbong Terang has been selected to Chair the glorious organisation of the people of Assam. Hope, he will be able to lead the present complex situation for better cause of Assam and the North East with selfless design.

Patnaik lauds peace process with insurgent groups

Crucial budget session begins

Assam governor Janki Ballav Patnaik has opened the one month long budget session on Thursday. The session will have 15 working days. During the session, the budget is scheduled to be passed on March 28. The crucial Bills would be introduced in between March 1 and 16. Altogether 12 notices have been placed for introduction of bills. These include The Assam Kaziranga University Bill, 2012 and The Assam Venture Sanskrit and Pali Educational Institutions (Provincialisation of Services) Bill. SC to decide on fate of Mahendra Das

The Supreme Court is expected to decide on the fate of death convict Mahendra Das on Thursday. The country’s apex court is set to deliver the crucial judgment on the Special Leave Petition filed by Mahendra Nath Das where he has pleaded that his death sentence should be commuted to lifer. His mercy petition was rejected by the President after an inordinate delay of 12 years and plea for commutation to life imprisonment on this ground was dismissed by the Gauhati High Court.

Assam Assembly begins budget session

Amid tight security, the Assam Assembly begins its budget session from Thursday. The month-long session opens with Governor JB Patnaik’s speech. A set of crucial bills are expected to be passed in this session. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is scheduled to table the state budget for 2012-13 financial year on March 12.

Daimary agrees to talk to Centre

The Centre is soon set to strike a peace accord with Ranjan Daimary faction of the NDFB. 21 Parliamentary secretaries to take oath

Altogether 21 parliamentary secretaries are scheduled to take oath of office a secrecy on Wednesday. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is all set to administer them at a function in Kalakshetra at 11 in the morning. The government has already announced the names of the 21 MLAs to be sworn in as parliamentary secretaries. 4 ULFA men arrested in Sivasagar

Sivasagar police have arrested 3 pro talk ULFA cadres on extortion charges in the hear of the town. Identified as Ashim Bora alias Pankaj Gogoi, Mukul Saikia and Jiten Gohain, they were arrested when they were on the way to extort money from a businessman at the Rong ghar Chariali. They allegedly served a notice to a businessman demanding Rs 20,0000 in cash in the name of Jiban Moran.

Grenade explosion in Guwahati

At least five people sustained injury when suspected ULFA exploded a powerful grenade in Guwahati on Tuesday. The incident took place in front of the Assam state BJP office in the busy Zoo Road at around 6-10 in the evening. According to eyewitness, the grenade was hurled from inside a Tata Sawari leaving at least two persons injured who were rushed to the GMCH. The injured people include a auto driver and a taxi driver. Top ranked police and civil officials have arrived in the spot and apprehended it an ULFA handi work.

All Women Health Check-up Camp at Press Club

The city based NEMCARE Hospital in association with Guwahati Press Club has organized an all women health check-up camp on March 4 next. The health camp will start at 10 am and continue till 2 pm. Organized on the eve of International Women's Day (March 8), the camp will be conducted by a group of lady doctors of the hospital. The basic objective behind the camp is to bring all women journalists and wives of working journalists for an exclusive health check up for gynecological and other related problems of women. The lady journalists and spouses of working journalists are requested to participate in the camp.
