Noted litterateur Rong Bong Terang has been elected the new president of Asom Sahitya Sabha on Sunday. The announcement to this effect was made by the state’s largest literary body came up at the Bhgawati Prasad Baruah Bhawan in Guwahati after the counting of votes sent by the district bodies ended. Kanak Chandra Sarma will be vice president while Dr Paramananda Rajbanshi has been elected as the secretary of the literary body. Terang is a litterateur whose epoch Rong Milir Hanhi sent him into the acme of glory. Contemporary social life in the state is very much there in his literary works . Jak Heruwa Pakhi is all about the ethnic frenzy between Karbis and the Kukis. The Assam agitation is what dominates his Krantikalor Oshru….During that time, he was attracted by the prose works of Hem Barooah’s Hagor Dekhisa not to speak of Banikanta Kakoti’s Sahitya Aaru Prem. Besides, he wrote a lot for Karbi language and literature. Mention may be made of Karbi Lamkuru, Karbi Kala Aaditag. Besides, some of his notable works in Assamese literature are Rong Milir Hanhi, Karbi Sahitya-Sanskritit Abhumuki, Nila Orchid, Smritir Papori and what not. It was Terang who for the first time used the word Karbi Anglong in his lyric.

Rongbong Terang is a great writer and a well-known personality of Diphu, Karbi Anglong in Assam. His work is really appreciable and unique. Assam Sahitya Sabha will go a long way under his presidentship. We wish him all the good luck and prayers for future.

Asam Sahity Sabha since its inception selecting the person as its President who hiself is an institution. This time Rongbong Terang has been selected to Chair the glorious organisation of the people of Assam. Hope, he will be able to lead the present complex situation for better cause of Assam and the North East with selfless design.

ULFA's political ideologue Bhimakanta Buragohain died at his residence in Tinsukia district on Monday. The end came at 5-30 in the evening at his Dhola Ahom Gaon residence following a massive cardiac arrest. The bachelor who lived alone with his security guards was keeping well during the last few months.
Popularly known as Mama, he was born in 1931 at Kakopathar in Tinsukia. He was also a painter and a sculptor.
He was arrested by Bhutanese Royal Army during Operation All Clear in December 2003 and handed over to India in January 2004. He was languishing in Tezpur Central jail and later in Guwahati Central Jail before procuring bail in December last year.

The House witnessed uproar when tHe united opposition members tried to corner the government alleging powerful minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma"s nexus with ULFA which the banned insurgent outfit itself disclosed> apart from it the opposition AGP, BJP, AIUDF, and Left parties demand immediate resigntion of Dr Sarma. Big dam issue is also set to stall the House proceedings in the five day long session.The government is also ready to counter the opposition camp. Congress leader Pankaj Bora has been elected to the Rajya Sabha Uncontested. The official announcement was made on Thursday when the date for withdawal of nomination was over. Apart from the forme minister Bora, Congress activist Jesim Raja filed nomintion papers but it was rejected citing technical reasons. This has paved the way for Bora to get elected to the Rajya Sabha. The Rajya Sabha bye election was required in the state following the death of Silvius Condopan.
Government peace interlocutor PC Haldar on Tuesday held talks with NDFB Ranjan Daimary in Guwahati. During his hurricane trip, Haldar rushed to the Guwahati Central jail and met Daimary. They are believed to have discussed the prospect of the peace talks between govt and NDFB.
The war of words between Ulfa and Himanta Biswa Sarma seems to have taken a bitter turn. Addressing a press conference in Dispur on Tuesday, the education minister reiterated silence from Ulfa during the last ten years if he was really with the insurgent outfit. Dr Sarma launched scathing attack on AGP and BJP for calling for his head on the basis of the Ulfa revelations. The Electronic Media Forum of Assam (EMFA) invites entries for the annual EMFA Awards 2011. The forum has decided to confer awards in more than ten categories including best reporting on socio-political theme, development, environment, economic issues of northeast India. The reports should be telecast on or before 31st December 2011. The Centre holds a series of talks in Delhi on Sunday with three militant outfits operating in Assam. The Union home ministry is holding talks with National Democratic Front of Boroland (Progressive) and Dima Halam Daogah (Nunisha faction) on Sunday. On Monday it will be talking to DHD (Jewel Garlosa faction). The DHD(J) is expected to reach an agreement with the Centre on Monday.
