Rong Bong Terang is Asom Sahitya Sabha president

Noted litterateur Rong Bong Terang has been elected the new president of Asom Sahitya Sabha on Sunday. The announcement to this effect was made by the state’s largest literary body came up at the Bhgawati Prasad Baruah Bhawan in Guwahati after the counting of votes sent by the district bodies ended. Kanak Chandra Sarma will be vice president while Dr Paramananda Rajbanshi has been elected as the secretary of the literary body. Terang is a litterateur whose epoch Rong Milir Hanhi sent him into the acme of glory. Contemporary social life in the state is very much there in his literary works . Jak Heruwa Pakhi is all about the ethnic frenzy between Karbis and the Kukis. The Assam agitation is what dominates his Krantikalor Oshru….During that time, he was attracted by the prose works of Hem Barooah’s Hagor Dekhisa not to speak of Banikanta Kakoti’s Sahitya Aaru Prem. Besides, he wrote a lot for Karbi language and literature. Mention may be made of Karbi Lamkuru, Karbi Kala Aaditag. Besides, some of his notable works in Assamese literature are Rong Milir Hanhi, Karbi Sahitya-Sanskritit Abhumuki, Nila Orchid, Smritir Papori and what not. It was Terang who for the first time used the word Karbi Anglong in his lyric.

Rongbong Terang is a great writer and a well-known personality of Diphu, Karbi Anglong in Assam. His work is really appreciable and unique. Assam Sahitya Sabha will go a long way under his presidentship. We wish him all the good luck and prayers for future.

This time Rongbong Terang has been selected to Chair the glorious organisation of the people of Assam. Bokakhat MLA Jiten Gogoi was arrested again on Friday in connection with three more fresh cases. Gogoi was granted bail by a local court recently after he was remanded to judicial custody. Japanese encephalitis have claimed several lives in upper Assam. According to information, at least 17 people, including children, have died due to Japanese encephalitis in Sivasagar district some this month. The disease was spreading in Amguri, Geleki, Demow and Khelua areas of the district, which is encephalitis prone. Jim Ankan Deka, becomes the first Assamese to open a music institution and a production house in Bangalore, India. Eastern Fare Music Foundation had its origination in 2007. Presently the foundation has six institutions and two recording studios. While Jim is the proprietor, two of his friends Mr Anand PM from Kerala and Miss Parmita Borah from Assam help him in running the show. Children from flood affected families take meal at a relief camp in Sivasagar district of on July 12. The flood situation all over the state has been critical since the beginning of July as the water level of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries are still flowing above the danger level. The current wave of flood in the past week has left about 400,000 people displaced in over 500 villages in the four districts of Assam. Two children died in the last 24 hours in the district. The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) said a section fake ULFA activists are on an extortion spree in the state. In a statement release on Wednesday, the banned insurget outfit’s finance secretary Chitrabon Hazarika disclosed that since 2002, he has not signed any letter demanding money from any individual and organizations.
A major orgy of violence was averted in North Cachar hills distirct on Wedneday when altogether seven Naga miscreants have been arrested during a joint operation by army and police in Mahur area. According to information, the miscreants who were apprehended at a tiny hamlet Impai were coming to strike in the area with a huge cache of arms and ammunition. Investigations are in progress. It may be recalled that over 25 persons were killed and more than 250 houses were set on fire during the last two months in the orgy of violence in the hills district where the Zeme Naga and Dimasa people were worst affected.
Three persons were killed, over 35 others have been injured when a passenger bus fell on a bridge in Burhaparah on the way to Jorhat on Wednesday morning. According to information, three persons including the driver died on the spot and the injured ones have been rushed to the Jakhalabandha hospital. A few of the seriously injured persons have been rushed to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital. The reason of the accident, however, has yet to be ascertained. Investigations are on.
In the continuing orgy of ethnic violence, unidentified armed miscreants shot dead a farmer and injured his minor son in N.C. Hills district on Tuesday. According to information, the incident took place in the morning when unidentified gunmen fired on a group of farmers at Daotuhaja near Maibong killing the farmer and injuring his seven-year-old son. The incident took pace ten hours after a Dimasa woman and her child were killed by suspected Zeme-Naga miscreants in Natunwari village, during the day-long bandh called by several organisations to protest the clashes between the two tribes.
