Guwahati :Police killed oneand captured four in an encounter with ULFA operatives in Lichchubari hillock, near Hengerabari, a residential area which is hardly one and a half kilometers away from Assam’s capital city Dispur on late Thursday evening. Police sources said that a team of police and special commando force reached the Lichuchbagan hillock at 11.00 PM as they had some specific information about the presence of a group of ULFA militants in the area. When they reached the top they noticed some people moving around suspiciously and asked them to stop. The group responded by throwing a grenade on the petrol and tried to run away. The grenade missed the target and exploded nearby. Police retaliated and one youth was injured. After a brief fight, the police managed to catch four of them. The injured was sent to GuwahatiMedicalCollegeHospital immediately where he was declared dead on arrival. Police also recovered one grenade, explosives, other materials and incriminating documents from the spot. It may be mentioned that on Wednesday ULFA militants had triggered a blast at Hengerabari chowk and injured 3 people. The day before yesterday militants triggered another blast in Ganeshguri, also a nearby place which had again injured 2 people. Meanwhile the four-day special summer session of Assam Assembly has ended this evening and it is believed that ULFA was trying to disrupt the session.

At least eight persons sustained injury when a powerful IED exploded blast in Udalgiri district on Tuesday. The explosion took place at a 'Raas-leela' pandal at around 8 in the evening. The four injured were rushed to a local hospital where condition of two is stated to be serious. The blast took place just few metres away from Udalgiri police station and the bus stand. No militant group has so far taken responsibility for the blast.

Newspapers hawkers have called off the strike on Tuesday. The development came up after they struck fresh deal with the agents. For the last three days, news papers did not reach the homes of the city's readers for the third consecutive day on Sunday and Monday as hawkers continued their indefinite strike over a dispute with newspaper distributing agencies on payment.
The advertisement, issued in some local papers on November 29, had said hawkers were not making payments by claiming that customers were not paying their bills at the end of the month.
