A strong 6.5 magnitude earthquake killed four labourers in Bhutan who actually hail from Assam. They were identified as Meera Boro from Sashirpur in lower Assam’s Tamulpur, Mohan Praja from Menoka Tea Estate and Rupamoni Barman from Sukanjuli. They were working with a Border Roads Organisation project near Sundrupjhankar in Bhutan. It may be noted that the epicenter of the earthquake was Monger in Bhutan near Thimphu which rattled parts of the north eastern region. This for the fifth time earthquake rocked the region in a month. The last one took place on September 3 midnight where the magnitude in the Richter Scale was 5.9. There are reports of cracks in several apartments in Guwahati which forced the panic stricken residents to come out of the houses at around 2-23 in the afternoon.

Mohilary distributes land pattas

A total of 702 tribal families were given away land pattas, covering 300 bighas of forest land under the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 under Chirang Forest Division at a function held at Dhunabari Lower Primary school in Chirang Tuesday. BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary handed over the papers in the presence of BTC Deputy Chief Kampa Borgoyary, Deputy Commissioner, Chirang, Virendra Singh Mittal, DFO, Chirang, Subash Chandra Brahma and Project Director Deba Kumar Kalita. PM steps down

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh put in his papers before the President on Saturday. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi said that he would quit taking moral responsibility of his party's dismal show in the Lok Sabha polls.
