Sivasagar: In yet another stepped up case in upper Assam’s Sivasagar district, militants kidnapped a 13-year-old boy on Thursday broad day light on the way to school at Tawkak on Thursday morning even as the police is still remaining clueless.
According to information, the militants waylaid the three wheeler in Sonari and dragged Rajat Agarwal, the son of a Hindi-speaking businessman, out of it and quickly fled from the spot leaving Rajat’s sister and the driver there.
Rajat started screaming and sought help to rescue him and the people came out and chased them, the militants managed to stall these people at gun point and they escape from the scene with Rajat.
Rajat, the son of a grocer, Dilip Agarwal, is a Class VII student of Sonari St. Joseph School. Later speaking to Sivasagr police, Rajat’s sister and others in the three wheeler said two men brandished pistols and forced the autorickshaw to return to the tea garden where one more person joined them. They asked the students if any relative of Pintu Agarwal was with them.
The police has yet to ascertain the militant group involved in it and no outfit has yet claimed the responsibility but it is widely suspected that the kidnappers could be members of either the ULFA or the All Adivasi National Liberation of Assam (AANLA) as they appeared to resemble Adivasis.
Top ranked police and civil officials rushed to the spot and the Assam Rifles and Assam Police have launched a joint operation along Assam-Nagaland boder to trace Rajat.
The security forces have also moved inside Mon district in the neighbouring Nagaland after reports that the boy was taken to the bordering State. Sources here say the operation which began at around 11 in the morning on Thursday is continuing but is remaining clueless.
