This music institute created quite a buzz in Bangalore in 2009, by being the groundbreaking “First Registered Music Institute to be commenced by an Assamese”. With the festive spirits still vivacious, Eastern Fare Music Foundation had more than one reason to celebrate. Thanks to the trailblazing initiative by Jim Ankan, a music composer from Assam, the institute has not only completed a year but has done extremely well in the Trinity Guild Hall Exam for music. The students of Eastern Fare scored record percentages in the whole of Bangalore City (Shreya Krishnaswamy 98%).
The anniversary celebrations were conducted on 12th February at the Furtados Music Showroom in Koramangala. The event "Euphony - a winter nocturne" also marked the launch of the official website of institute www.easternfare.com. The show took off with some quick and crispy piano recitals by the beginners; while the intermediate students did some covers like “Heal the world” by MJ and “To be with you” by Mr Big. The institute’s band Eastern Fare really got the temperatures rising with some original tracks like “Personally Your’s” and “Least Liked Best”. Vocalist Siddharth Tanti and Faheeda Fahad made the crowd groove to some equally nifty covers like “Friday”, “Wild World”, “Heart Shaped Box”, “Give Me Some Water” and “Animal Instinct”. However it was the featured performance by Chief Guest Suchetan Rangaswamy with his fusion band “Veenar”, whose melodious phonation touched some meticulous Carnatic notes leaving the crowd awe struck. Mr. Rangaswamy also felicitated the top performers of the institute. Parmita Borah anchored the show with her usual panache.
Eastern Fare Music Foundation is a full-fledged music institute and is recognized by the Trinity School of Music. The courses offered are purely western classical, but the management has decided to foray into Carnatic and Hindustani classical music towards the second half of this year. The foundation also has a club, Eastern Fare Music Club, where the members are provided with facilities like jamming room, studio and library. The members of the club have been associated with charitable causes like ‘blood donation’, ‘helping the poor’ and ‘teaching the under priviledged’. The director of the institute Jim Ankan has composed music for many albums, films and south Indian television serials. He has also been featured in Radio Channels like Radio Indigo (Bangalore) and Gupshup FM (Guwahati).

The city police have recovered a huge cache of foreign made arms and explosives from Jalukbari area in Guwahati on Monday morning while the district administration was remaining busy in vote counting. According to information, the explosive materials were ercovered by the patrolling personnel of 65 Battalion from a polythene packet kept under a boat moored on the banks of the Brahmaputra near the office of Government Railway Police Superintendent at Pandua. The seizure included grenades, RDX, gunpowder and detonators. Investigation is going on.
Amidst tight security ring, the counting of votes in the panchayat poll has begun on Monday morning to decided on the fate of altogether 89,272 candidates from 19 districts across the rural Assam. According to information, all these candidates are in the fray for 25,089 panchayat posts. Of them, 1,877 candidates for 487 posts of zilla parishads, 2,053 candidates for 8,955 block level panchayat posts. These are in addition to those 9,802 candidates for 2,053 posts for presidentships. The opposition parties will closely monitor the vote counting on Monday throughout the state apprehending large scale rigging by the ruling Congress. Led by AUDF, the these opposition parties held a meeting on Sunday at the Circuit House and discussed the situation.The meeting was attended by the leaders of AGP(P), CPI(ML),RCPI,RSP, Samajwadi Party. Despite a chilly Sunday morning, the atmosphere atop the Borail hill became agog with festivity as it was throbbing with the dance of Dimasa as Busu Dima gets underway. The people in large numbers joined the Baidima, the name of the dazzling Dimasa dance on the day of their much-vaunted Bihu. For these colourful people, it’s the harvest festival. Busu Dima means -Busu means Bihu while Dima means the tribe Dimasa. The Dimasas have Busus: Hangseo Busu, Surem Busu and Zidao Busu. Hangseo is Zudima along with pork, mutton and chicken. Two ULFA cadres and an Army captain died at a fierce encounter at the Meshakhi forest area in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district on Sunday. According to information, the encounter is still going on and the Army is cordoning off the entire area. The two dread ULFA leaders have been identified as Chandan Dohutia, a major sergeant and corporal Tutu Moran. The army captain who also died at the encounter is H Chaudhory who received the President’s medal for his outstanding service on Saturday’s Republic Day. The crackdown began in the morning.
