Asom Sahitya Sabha felicitates octogenarians

On the occasion of Rangalee Bihu celebration in the state, Asom Sahitya Sabha felicitates a few distinguished octogenarians of the state,who had contributed in their respective fields of activities during past years.Darrang Zilla Sahitya Sabha too felicitates a few such distinguished people of Darrang and Udalguri district including-Pani Ram Das (noted freedom fighter and social worker); Lalit Chandra Nath Oja (Sangeet Natak Academy award winner);Prabhat Sarma Shastri (Sahitya Academy award winner); Purna Kanta Sarma (former principal DIET); Bharat Chandra Nath (educationist);Bhadreswar Nath (writter); Kiran Deka (president,Lekhika Samaroh,Darrang) etc.


A team of Sahitya Sabha officials,with Sailen Rajbongshi, Tarun Azad Deka, Sahiruddin Ahmed,Jadab Deka;Binoy Kumar Barua and Sat Ram Deka etc had met all the persons personally at their respective houses on April 15 and 16 2010 and felicitates them with a book and gamocha to their much delight. According to Tarun Azad Deka,it was very much essential for the society to remember such great heroes who had once contributed so much for the people of the society.People Darrang and Udalguri have appreciated the good move mooted out by Asom Sahitya Sabha.

Encouraging indeed.We the people of India have failed to remember the heroes of the past.Thanks to the organoiser for all the good works.Elderly people ,who had contributed a lot during their times must be honopured.

ASEB rented worker electrocuted at Kalaigaon

ne Pabitra Baro (27) son of Gajen Baro of Bhehguri village under Kalaigaon PS died today due to electrocution at Tengabari village near Kalaigaon.According to information,Pabitra Baro father of a two and half years old girl was working at ASEB Kalaigaon office (on rental basis) for last two years.While he was repairing LT line at Tengabari today unexpected flow of current due to negligence of ASEB Kalaigaon office,killed him instantly on high poles.People agitated against ASEB for not attending the spot till evening.

Wild elephants kill two more in Udalguri

One Krishna Das (34) son of late Suthu Das of Khoira jungle village under Paneri Police Station was killed by wild elephant at Khoira jungle at 10 PM on October 24. In a separate incident another Lorentus Minj (64),head cook of the Manager of Nonaipar TE under Dimakuchi Police Station was trampled to death at section No. 16 in Nonaipar TE at around 9.30 PM on the same night.Both the killed persons were returning home after days work. Agitated villagers blocked the MB road in front of Paneri PS in the morning of October 25 demanding immediate payment of compensation to the victims.

Two days science model exhibition at Tangla

Arunodoi Academy, Tangla organized a grand science exhibition cum competition at Tangla on October 22 and 23 on the occasion of Foundation Day of the school. Dipankar Saharia,Regional Coordinator,TERI formally inaugurated the two days programme on October 22 at 10 AM. DN Hazarika, Circle Officer,Harisinga Revenue Circle lighted the sacred lamp before its inauguration. Inter state fake mark sheet racket busted in Udalguri district

In a major breakthrough Kalaigaon police arrested three members of an interstate fake mark sheet and certificate racket at Kalaigaon on October 18 recently. Police recovered more than a dozen seals of various educational institutions including Guwahati University, SEBA, AHSEC, government hospitals etc. The racket had been operating at various places in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh for several years supplying fake mark sheets and pass certificates of BA,BSc, BCom of GU;SEBA;AHSEC;Third Eye College, Guwahati to people in return of huge amount of money. One shot dead near Kalaigaon, attempt to loot foiled

One Dulal Das (50) son of late Manindra Das of Tangla has been shot dead by an unidentified extremist group of six at Kendutal,6 KM from Kalaigaon town at 3 PM on October 18.According to information,killed Das,manager of Patowary company,Tangla was carrying a cash amount of Rs.39 lakhs from SBI Mangaldai for Borangajuli TE in his Maruti Alto accompanied by three police security and Banker S.Kundu.Their vehicle was intercepted at Kendutal by six youths coming from Tangla in a Tata Sumo.Equipped with 9 MM pistol and AK-47,they started firing at the Maruti car resulting death of Dulal Das on spot.
