Guwahati: The much-awaited annual general meeting of the Assam Olympic Association was held today which retained Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi as the President of the organization. However, the posts of the secretary and treasurer saw two new faces this time. Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain replaced outgoing secretary Mukut Medhi while Raj Kakoti, assistant secretary of the former committee, has taken over the post of treasurer.
The annual general meeting of the AOA, held at the Sarusajai Sports complex today, was presided over by President Tarun Gogoi. Many new faces, a few of them being State ministers like Himanta Biswa Sharma and Gautam Roy, have been included in the committee.
The Chief Minister also proposed several steps in the meeting for the upliftment of sports in Assam. He said that a sports authority of Assam will soon be formed to look after the newly-built sports infrastructure in the State. The setting up of a sports academy in the State also figured among his proposals.
The meeting affiliated four district sports associations-those of Nalbari, Goalpara, Bongaigaon and Udalguri. Two State sports associations- rugby and lawn bowl- were also affiliated to the apex body. Meanwhile, newly-elected secretary of the Assam Olympic Association Rockybul Hussain today said that his association would give priority to trace out hidden talents from different parts of the State. He also advocated for the revival of the State Games.
