Keeping in view the the agitational programmes launched by the Amri-Karbi's for the last few days, the Assam Government, on Thursday, has declared it's decision to postponed elections in greater Dimoria area in Kamrup (Metro) district, which falls under the Tiwa Autonomous council. However, the formal notification to this will be issued on May 31 next. It is worth mentioning that the date of council poll is slated for June 7 this year.
According to the reports, the agitators on thursday staged a sit-in-demo in front of the Sonapur revenue circle and blocked the National Highway 37 to register their protest. Later, Govt. representatives when assured the agitators to postponed elections in the six constituencies namely Phong-ari, Ampri, Sonapur, Dimoria, Khetri and Digarupaar, the agitators had withdrawn their agitation.
According to agitators there is no Tiwa population in their area and hence they should not be included in the Tiwa council.
