64th Indepence Day observed at Barpeta

The 64th Independence Day was observed at Barpeta also along with the rest of the country on Sunday. Unfurling the National flag at the Govt HS school premises the deputy commissioner of Barpeta Phanidhar Lakita remembered the sacrifices of the great Indian freedom fighters. Addressing to the gathering after taking the welcome of March-past he added that Barpeta district have been proceeded in various sides along with the implementation of the schemes. Barpeta is also had gone ahead through various beneficial works for the district. The deputy commissioner also hoped that the former peace and tranquility will remain the same among the Barpetians. On this occasion the freedom fighters of Barpeta and the expert sports persons were also felicitated. Some of the beneficiaries were also given financial aid.

Dead body of the servant recovered

A dead body of a girl servant namely Krishna Medhi was recovered in a pond at Gandhi Nagar area at Barpeta town on Sunday night. According to report, Krishna Medhi was the servant at one Dwijen Das residence, workers of LIC, Barpeta branch of Barpeta Gandhinagar. Mentionable that the dead Krishna Medhi had been worked as a servant somany years at the house of Dwijen Das. The local people of the area found her dead and rushed to the sadar police station of Barpeta. The local people and Krishna’s family members wanted to say it as a murder. The police caught Dwijen das, for interrogation. But there was no case filed till filing this report.

4 killed in Barpeta police firing

Four people died and over 50 others have been injured when police opened fire on a group of student protesters trying to stall government proceedings of updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Barpeta on Wednesday.
