International Women’s Day was observed at Gram Vikash Parishad’s Head Office, Rangaloo jointly by Jan Sikshan Sansthan, Nagaon, Gram Vikash Parishad and Social Welfare Department of Nagaon on 8th March 2011. To mark this auspicious occasion a day long programme was held. Officers from different departments of the district and well known persons were present in the open session presided over by Md. Siraj Uddin Ahmed General Secretary of Gram Vikas Parishad. Valuable speeches were delivered by the eminent guest speakers including Mrs Jarjina Begum (Retired Subject Teacher), Moni Deepa Saikia (District Social Welfare Officer), Rosie Kalita (Additional S.P. Nagaon), Dr. Roslin Zahan (Professor Nagaon Girls College), Based Ali (Asstt. Teacher Rangoloo High School), Abdul Munnaf (President, Gram Vikas Parishad), Rumi Begum (Senior Supervisor Kathiatali ICDS Project), emphasizing over the main objective of observing Women’s Day, women empowerment and awareness.
On this occasion tree plantation, devotional song, drawing competition and a one act play performed by JSS & GVP staff written and directed by Kajol Choudhury were one of the important parts of the day long programme including open session. Three bomb blasts today rocked Sonari (Charaideo district) and Dibrugarh town. As per information received here around 8 am two motor cycle-borne miscreants hurled grenade at a shop in Teokghat locality of Sonari sending shock- waves across the locality. The dreaded leader of the NDFB was sentenced for life by a CBI special court a few years ago.
The Guwahati granted him a four-week bail for taking part in peace-talks with the Centre.
The Union Home ministry and the state government had submitted no objection certificates in the High Court.

Manas Konwar, executive president of the Chatramukti Sangram Samity, the students' wing of the KMSS, has been arrested on Thursday by the NIA.
According to some information a sleuth of the National Investigation Agency picked up the Chatramukti Sangram Samity leader.
He has been arrested for his alleged involvement with Maoist, sources revealed.

Guwahati: City based Journalist fraternity on Thursday appealed to the Assam government for launching a scheme to support the bereaved families of working journalists of the state who died on duty.

Senior journalist Ajit Kr. Bhuyan has stepped down from Guwahati based sattelite news channel Prag News as it's chief editor.
Bhuyan, who has been playing a major role in mass mobilisation for the on-going anti-CAA protest in the state, on Saturday formally submitted his resignation.
