Cultural Function of Assam by Assam Association of Mumbai

The Assam Association, Mumbai organizes a cultural
function of traditional Assamese music and dance to be
performed by reputed artists specially invited from Assam
on Sunday 23rd September 2007 at Assam Bhawan,
Vashi, from 4 pm to 7 pm. Those cultural items were
created by Sri Sri Sankardeva, the greatest cultural and
social reformer of NE India.
On this occasion, the association takes the pleasure to
invite you and your associates/journalists to make this

It was very nice to get the news about the celebration of greatest saint of Asom Srimanta Sankardev, who was the founder of basic culture and peace in Assam, which is still followed to maintain our strong history.

Rongpi holds govt responsible for NC hills violence

CPI(ML) leader and former MP Dr Jayanta Rongpi has held the Assam government responsible for the burning situation in the North Cachar hills district and said the Gogoi Government has failed to bring the situation under control.Addressing a press conference here in the city, Dr Rongpi said the suspension of train services and shifting of railway employees from the trouble torn district have proved that the government has been failing to deal with the war like situation. 2 dead as moving train dashes tractor

Two people died on the spot while a tractor on which they were riding was dashing against a moving train at an unmanned level crossing near Jogijan in Nagaon on Tuesday. According to an official statement, the incident took place when the tractor entered through the unmanned level crossing collided with the speeding 0865 Up train in the afternoon. Later, Lumding Divisional manager S S Narayanan rushed to the spot with senior officials and took stock of the situation. The train reached Hojai at around 4 in the afternoon.

AGP unification panel meets to study progress

The Asom Gana parishad’s eleven member unification panel is meeting to day in the city to carry forward the amalgamation of the regional parties before the Lok Sabha polls. According to information, headed by AGP executive president and former minister Phani Bhusan Chaudhury, the panel will talk to the breakaway AGP leaders Biraj Kumar Sarma and Rekharani Das Boro. It has already hold a few rounds of talk with AGP(P), Trinamool gana parishad and two PLP factions. Akhil Kr Medhi appointed new Gauhati University VC

Senior Professor and former science dean of Gauhati University Akhil Kumar Medhi is set to be the new Vice Chancellor of the same varsity. Poachers Mun Bezbaruah arrested in the city

At last forest department has managed to arrest poacher Manu Bazbaruah from the city on Monday. According to information, Manu was arrested on his way to the Santipur based forest office. Later he was produced before the session court in the city which remanded him to fourteen days judicial custody. It may be noted that a joint operation by police and forest department seized deer meat, elephant leg, skjin of tigers and a huge cache of arms and ammunition from his Dispur based residence but he was not available. Of late, Bezbaruah evaded police arrest with an anticipatory bail petition.

Talk: ULFA says govt trying to confuse its cadres

The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) has charged the government with trying once again to divide the cadres in the name of fresh bid for peace talk. In its latest issue of the mouthpiece Freedom, the banned insurgent outfit has said the government is trying it level best to confuse the outfit saying a section of jailed ULFA leaders led by Mrinal Hazarika has sent letter to the Chief Minister through IGP Khagen Sarma expressing the willingness for peace initiative afresh.
